To say the New Orleans Saints missed Taysom Hill in the Week 3 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles would be an understatement.
Now, the focus turns to whether he will be available for the Week 4 encounter with the Atlanta Falcons.
Speaking after the 15-12 home loss to the Eagles, Saints head coach Dennis Allen sounded somewhat optimistic about Hill’s chances this week: “We ended up deciding to rule him out. I’m hopeful that he’ll be ready to go next week.”
That’s better than the discourse around Hill last week after he left a game for the hospital after suffering a chest injury. He eventually left and appeared on the injury report all week, but the vagueness of the situation stood out.
So, too, did the Saints’ miserable offensive showing against the Eagles after consecutive weeks of 40-plus points in a 2-0 start. He’s not posting eye-popping stat lines (eight carries, 53 yards), but Hill is a key cog in the machine who lines up all over the offense, causes confusion for defenses and throws some key blocks.
Hill missed time with a rib injury in 2022 and played through a chest injury last season, too, so there’s precedent for upper-body injuries. His stats on the day-by-day injury report will be something to watch, though the tricky nature of the situation could easily make him a gameday decision no matter what the report says.
