Boston Celtics superstar Jayson Tatum was called out by Minnesota Timberwolves superstar Anthony Edwards in the new Netflix documentary Starting Five. After their 114-109 win in November of last season, Ant was talking trash in the locker room.
“You seen Tatum trying to get me on the switch, locked his *** up 2 times. Tatum was talking crazy, saying, ‘Yeah, I’m here,’ then I said, ‘I’m coming again.’ Talking ‘bout best player in the league, y’all trippin’.”
In that game, Edwards had 38 points, and led the Timberwolves to victory in overtime. Tatum had 32 points, so it’s not like he did horribly.
It was definitely a good win for Minnesota, but in the long run, this quote did not age well.
In their next showdown that season, the Celtics won 127-120, once again in overtime. Tatum had 45 points, while Edwards had 29.
The Celtics also were able to make and win the NBA Finals, while the Timberwolves were stopped short in the Western Conference Finals by the Dallas Mavericks.
Tatum was also named the best small forward in the NBA once again by general managers, cementing himself as arguably the best player in the NBA.
Edwards has become a superstar, but until he gets over the hump like JT and the C’s, he doesn’t have much room to talk.
“You seen Tatum trying to get me on the switch, locked his ass up 2 times. Tatum was talking crazy, saying, ‘Yeah, I’m here,’ then I said, ‘I’m coming again.’ Talking ‘bout best player in the league, y’all trippin’.”
