Boston Celtics newest guard Lonnie Walker IV is ready to fight for a spot on the main Celtics roster, per Noa Dalzell. He also understands he may have to spend some time in the G-League to achieve his goal.
“I gotta earn it,” said Walker. “Being on an E10, it’s not guaranteed. I’m not coming here with the mindset of ‘I’m on an E10 and afterwards I’m gonna get the guaranteed contract’, so I gotta work my tail off.”
Walker signed an Exhibit 10 contract back in late August. An Exhibit 10 is a contract where if Walker did not make the team after training camp, he would get a bonus and play in Maine with the G-League affiliate. However, that didn’t bother Walker either.
“Brad also mentioned that there’s the possibility I might spend some time with Maine in the G-league, and honestly I’m perfectly fine with that.”
Per Shams Charania earlier this month, it looked like Walker was going to be cut after camp, but nothing has been set in stone.
Walker still has some time to make the team, and he would be another valuable 3&D role-player for the superstars.
Lonnie Walker IV said that he knows he’ll have to earn the guaranteed deal and is prepared to work his tail off.
