The Seattle Seahawks have a pretty lengthy injury report once again this week. However, most of the key pieces seem to be trending in the right direction after sitting out Monday night's game against the Detroit Lions.
Here's everything we know about several key injuries for the Seahawks going into this week's home game against the New York Giants.
FS Julian Love
We'll begin with the best news to report, which is that star free safety Julian Love appears on track to play Sunday against his former team. Love suffered a thigh injury against the Lions that knocked him out of the game early. However, he didn't appear to be in too much discomfort on the sidelines afterwards and Love's week has gone well. He was upgraded to a full participant at Thursday's practice. It's a relief for Seattle, as Love has been their best defender this year. In fact, he is currently the second-highest-graded safety in the league this season, according to Pro Football Focus.
DL Byron Murphy II
Unfortunately, the news is not so good for the Seahawks' first-round draft pick, former Texas defensive lineman Byron Murphy II. After sitting out against the Lions with a hamstring injury, he has been listed as a DNP (Wednesday was only a walk-through) so far this week. The good news is Murphy is the only non-participant who may not be able to play against the Giants, as everyone else is trending up.
OLB Uchenna Nwosu
That includes Seattle's top edge rusher Uchenna Nwosu, who has yet to play this season because of an MCL sprain he suffered in the preseason finale. Nwosu has been limited at practice so far and it seems like there's a good chance he'll return to the lineup this week. The Seahawks releasing Tyus Bowser yesterday could be another indication that Nwosu will be activated.
OLB Boye Mafe, DL Leonard Williams
Fellow outside linebacker Boye Mafe (knee) also missed last week's game in Detroit, but he has been upgraded to limited, as well. The same goes for defensive end Leonard Williams (rib) who ranked second in the NFL in quarterback hits behind Aidan Hutchinson going into last week's absence against the Lions.
WR DK Metcalf, WR Tyler Lockett
Two of the team's league-best top three wide receivers are also on the injury report this week. DK Metcalf was listed as limited on Thursday with the same hand injury that doesn't seem to be slowing him down any. Meanwhile, Tyler Lockett was once again limited with the thigh issue that's been bothering him since training camp but he's been playing through.
