New week, new head coach, new offensive play caller, but the same story for New York Jets' rookie wide receiver Malachi Corley.
The Jets have listed the No. 65 overall draft pick as a healthy scratch for the third week in a row. Corley was last active on game day in Week 3 against the New England Patriots, but did not see the field in that Thursday Night Football victory.
Corley and starting slot cornerback Michael Carter II are the two most notable inactives for New York in its October 14 battle against the Buffalo Bills on Monday Night Football. Carter was ruled out earlier in the week due to a back injury. He left the Jets' Week 5 game after playing only one snap.
Three 2023 draft selections are also not dressed for the primetime game with offensive tackle Carter Warren, running back Israel Abanikanda and cornerback Jarrick Bernard-Converse all scratched.
Backup offensive lineman Max Mitchell and undrafted rookie defensive end Braiden McGregor rounded out the Jets' seven inactives.
In a disappointing development, the highly-touted Corley has totaled two offensive snaps as a rookie. Even with Todd Downing now in charge of the offense, the young receiver is unable to crack the lineup.
Surprisingly, Corley, who earned a reputation for his ability to gain yards after contact, has not factored into the Jets' special teams plans at all thus far. One would think his skill set would translate well in NFL's new kickoff format, but New York has yet to deploy the "YAC King" in that role.
