When the New York Jets abruptly fired head coach Robert Saleh, naturally, the news quickly flooded social media.
Jets' All-Pro cornerback Sauce Gardner, however, relies upon other sources for information these days. Having recently removing the X app from his phone, Gardner first heard about Saleh's dismissal in a message from his agent.
"I deleted social media, I deleted Twitter off my phone. It just be so negative," said Gardner on Thursday in Florham Park.
While the Jets' third-year cornerback doesn't appear to hold any sort of grudge toward X owner Elon Musk, Gardner does not appreciate the negativity that floods the app.
"I feel like I'm better as a human being, as a person in my day-to-day life when I'm not thinking about negativity and seeing negativity all day," said the 24-year-old Gardner.
The final straw for Gardner seemingly happened in the aftermath of the team's Week 5 loss in London. The 2022 first-round draft pick strongly objected to a post that called for running back Breece Hall's benching.
"Obviously, just stuff y'all seen with Breece and all of that stuff that I responded to. I just had to get rid of it," said Gardner.
Gardner's X account is still active and publicly visible, but he has not posted since October 7.

"Wow man... The negativity on here is at an all-time high. We all have seen what Breece can do, so why we acting brand new? He's a top rb in this league and it's sad that I even have to say that. I'm always go have my brother back bc I know the work he puts in everyday. And the same ones that was giving him praise quick to turn their back on him when things ain't going right which is sad. Y'all take care on this app," said Gardner in his final X message.
