The New York Jets could use more firepower in the receiving corps, and a former All-Pro performer may be available soon.
The Las Vegas Raiders appear ready to move on from Aaron Rodgers's old teammate Davante Adams. Las Vegas Review Journal reporter Vincent Bonsignore cited a source that claims the Raiders "are growing open to the idea of trading Davante Adams. The source said the club has begun reaching out to teams to gauge interest in the veteran wide receiver."
The 31-year-old Adams is currently nursing a hamstring injury that caused him to miss the team's Week 4 win over the Cleveland Browns. Over the season's first three weeks, he caught 18 of 27 targets for 209 yards and one touchdown.
The Adams-Jets trade speculation has been ongoing ever since Rodgers arrived in Florham Park. New York reportedly pursued a deal this past offseason, but the Raiders apparently were not interested at the time.
Multiple sources have suggested that Adams is no longer "all in" on being a Raider. Meanwhile, Las Vegas head coach Antonio Pierce accused players of making "business decisions" during a disappointing Week 3 loss to the Carolina Panthers and speculation says Adams was amongst the guilty parties.
With running back Breece Hall currently as their second-leading receiver, the Jets would likely benefit from another downfield target for Rodgers and who better than his old friend Adams? Once thought to cost multiple first-round draft picks as compensation, Adams may only be able to command a couple of mid-round selections at this point in time.
Coming off a paltry nine-point offensive effort in a loss to the Denver Broncos, the Jets find themselves at 2-2 during the ultimate must-win season. With general manager Joe Douglas and head coach Robert Saleh likely on the hot seat, New York may be willing to do whatever it takes to acquire Adams and make life easier for its 40-year-old quarterback.
