The injury bug just won’t leave the New Orleans Saints alone, with the latest major setback hitting star running back Alvin Kamara.
Heading into the Week 4 matchup with the Atlanta Falcons, Kamara popped up on the team’s first injury report of the week. He missed practice due to a rib injury and what Saints head coach Dennis Allen described as a hip pointer.
Coming out of a game in which he played a season-high 48 snaps during the loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, it certainly sounds like Kamara might be trending toward not playing.
Through three games, Kamara has rushed for 285 yards and four scores on a 4.7 per-carry average, though, like the rest of the offense, he was held in check by Philadelphia (26 carries, 87 yards, 3.3 average). He’s also third on the team in receiving with 10 catches for 132 yards and a score.
If Kamara misses the game against Atlanta, the workload will likely go to depth names Jamaal Williams and even Jordan Mims. While Taysom Hill would be a fit for work, too, he’s slowly coming back from that chest injury that required a hospital visit not all that long ago.
Facing a key NFC game, the Saints have major injury woes along the offensive line and Derek Carr just popped up on the injury report, too. During a normal week, it would mean a heavy workload for Kamara, but now multiple injuries have cast his availability in doubt.
