The worst-kept secret in Broncos Country is now official. On Wednesday, head coach Sean Payton officially named Bo Nix the Denver Broncos' starting quarterback for the 2024 season.
The team brought Nix along slowly behind veteran Jarrett Stidham but the plan all along was for him to be ready for Week 1 and after making sure that he would be, the decision has been announced.
Nix has looked nothing short of spectacular in the preseason and though critics have pointed out that he's done that in games that don't matter, there are obvious reasons why this decision was made. Nix has great poise and pocket awareness. He gets the ball out quickly and goes through his progressions like he's been a pro for years already.
Quite simply, he runs the offense the way Payton wants his offense to run.
In two preseason games, Nix has gone 23-of-30 passing for 205 yards and two touchdowns. He has made plays with his arm and his legs and Broncos fans are giddy about the future.
John Elway was the last rookie to start for the Broncos
The last time the Broncos opened a season with a rookie under center was back in 1983... with John Elway. Perhaps that will be a good omen for Nix, who enters the league with the most starts of any college quarterback in history.

Nix was the sixth quarterback taken in this year's draft but as Colin Cowherd stated recently, he thinks he could have the best year of anyone in this year's class.
The Broncos open against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 1.
