Indiana Pacers superstar point guard Tyrese Haliburton says he doesn’t plan on leaving Indiana, per the Pat McAfee Show. This comes after NBA legend Stephon Marbury made a comment about how Haliburton would be a good fit for the Phoenix Suns.
“I'm not going anywhere... The Marbury comment, it's weird. Why does Phoenix need me? They got Tyus Jones... I'm good in Indy, they're good in Phoenix.”
Last season, Haliburton averaged 20 points, four rebounds, and 11 assists for the Pacers. He also led the team from the sixth seed in the playoffs to upsets over the Milwaukee Bucks and New York Knicks. The Pacers lost in a sweep in the Eastern Conference Finals, but they lost to the best team in the league, the Boston Celtics, who went on to win the NBA Finals.
Haliburton could maybe fit on the Suns, but his fit on the Pacers is perfect for his playstyle, making sense on why he didn’t want to leave. They surround him with shooters and slashers, so he can do whatever he wants. He can throw lobs to the slashers, kick out to shooters for three pointers, and he can score whenever since defenders are more worried about where he’s going to throw it than him trying to score.
Overall, the Pacers may be Haliburton’s career home, and if Indiana can surround him with what he needs, there’s definitely a chance they make another deep playoff run.
