Newly acquired Sacramento Kings superstar DeMar DeRozan said that he was considering joining multiple other teams than the Kings on Paul George’s podcast. The teams he considered were the LA Clippers and Lakers, the Philadelphia 76ers, and the Miami Heat.
“Philly definitely was an option. Lakers was an option always. Clippers was an option. And the Heat… Those teams, for sure, were real personal, legitimate options that I was considering,” said DeRozan.
Last season, DeRozan averaged 24 points, four rebounds, and five assists. He is a multiple-time All-Star, and multiple-time All-NBA member.
A lot of these teams would be great fits for DeRozan, but joining the Kings was definitely the best choice. The Clippers would have him and an injury prone Kawhi Leonard, making serious playoff contention seem impossible. He would be the third option on both the Lakers and Sixers, and the Heat would have the smallest starting lineup in the league with him.
With the Kings, he is now the second option, with De’Aaron Fox being the first, and Domantas Sabonis as the third. They also control all three levels of scoring, with Sabonis being inside and outside presence, Fox being outside and inside, and DeRozan controlling the mid-range. This offense will be one of the scariest in the Western Conference.
