While the Boston Red Sox have been winning games, they've still had a few issues in recent weeks, including the struggles of their pitching staff.
Since the All-Star break, Boston's arms have posted a 5.96 ERA, which is the second-worst in that span with only the Chicago White Sox behind them.
Things aren't getting easier for the Red Sox, as MassLive's Sean McAdam reported on Wednesday that the team is expected to skip Nick Pivetta's next turn through the rotation, as he's dealing with arm fatigue.
Pivetta has tossed 95 1/3 innings over 18 starts, posting a 4.44 ERA (4.03 FIP), a 1.143 WHIP and an 11.0 K/9.
Typically, Pivetta is the workhorse of Boston's rotation, as he's appeared in at least 31 games in each of his three full seasons with the team. However, between the injury he dealt with earlier in the season and his amount of work in recent years, it might be catching up with him.
The Red Sox have options to use in Pivetta's place, including Josh Winckowki and Cooper Criswell, who have both pitched out of the bullpen and in the rotation at different points this year.
