Boston Red Sox rookie outfielder Ceddanne Rafaela sealed the game yesterday, and this isn’t the first time he’s done something like that. His stats back him up, as he hits way better after the 7th inning.

In the first three innings, Rafaela doesn’t really hit. His averages are .208/.245/.292/.537 across the board in the first third of the game, which isn’t good at all.

In the middle three innings, he hits a bit better, hitting .247/.275/.448/.723. This is decent hitting to expect from a rookie, but after the sixth inning he becomes a star.

In the final third of the game, Rafaela slams the ball, hitting .298/.319/.410/.729. Also, his late game heroics also go beyond a normal nine inning game.

In extra innings, Rafaela is a monster. In 11 plate appearances, he’s slashed .375/.500/1.125/1.165. Last night showed these states off, as his first appearance in extras, he hit a two-run homer to put the game away.

Rafaela will be playing shortstop tonight in the second game against the Detroit Tigers at 6:10pm EST.
