Fans of the Boston Red Sox are eyeing up Giants pitcher Taylor Rogers, who was just placed on waivers by his team. This means any of the other 29 teams in the MLB can claim him if they want.
Rogers would be amazing for the Sox, as he sits with a 2.45 ERA in 54 games, with 59 strikeouts. Rogers is also a lefty, so he would be great to add more versatility in the bullpen.
While the Sox are flirting with playoff contention at the moment, Rogers would definitely help with the next season. The Sox tried to be buyers at the deadline for their bullpen, but it definitely has not worked. If they could secure Rogers, it would be a step in the right direction.
If the Sox acquire Rogers, he could be the new 8th inning setup man since Chris Martin’s contract ends after this season.
The Sox do have one adversary to get through before they are free to acquire him. According to Buster Olney, the New York Mets are looking to bolster their bullpen as well. He also said the Sox may pass on Rogers due to the return of Liam Hendriks, but the Sox should still acquire him as a late-game reliever.
The Red Sox should highly consider. Rogers will only be 34 next year. https://t.co/1hRjjEK9DA
