The Boston Red Sox will be focusing their resources into increasing the depth of their starting pitching, per Jen McCaffrey. They will more likely focus on trades to increase their bullpen depth.
The Sox’s starting rotation did well this season, but they definitely were playing up and overworking themselves. This led to them getting blown up in the second half of the season, or letting their bullpen get destroyed because they could only go four or five innings.
If the Sox get an ace, that could solve their problem. All the starters would slide down a spot, to where they should actually be. Then, they wouldn’t overwork themselves and would stay healthy and better longer.
The Sox have an enormous amount of assets as well, as their farm is stacked. As long as they don’t give up most of their big 3, they could definitely find some teams willing to trade. However, there are some free agents that are too good to not take a swing at signing.
As long as the Sox actually sign or trade for big names that have proven to be dominant, they will be playing October baseball next season.
