NRL contract news: Reuben Cotter inks extension with Cowboys image

NRL contract season continues to rumble on with plenty of players still available to negotiate and sign with rival clubs.  

Reuben Cotter is the latest player to sign a contract extension, with his deal announced after Valentine Holmes' move south of the border.

Elsewhere, Joey Manu has determined his next step, while Zac Lomax has inked a deal with the Eels following his Dragons exit.

The Panthers, meanwhile, have lost two key players in James Fisher-Harris and Sunia Turuva, although they have gained a major star.

Reuben Cotter inks extension with Cowboys

Cowboys co-captain and representative star Reuben Cotter has extended his time at the Cowboys, now locked in with the club until 2028.

“This is a hugely important day for our club being able to formally announce a contract extension for one of our co-captains who has become one of the best middle forwards in the game,” Cowboys General Manager of Football Micheal Luck said.

“Reuben epitomises what we want our club to represent. He works hard, he’s humble and he’s selfless.

“This gives Reuben, his wife Mackenzie and their young family the security to firmly entrench their roots at home in North Queensland.

“We are thrilled to secure Reuben until at least the end of 2028 and look forward to the contributions he will make to the success of our club.”

Isaiah Iongi signs with Eels 

Parramatta have landed a welcome signing after their recent struggles in the player market with Isaiah Iongi joining from Penrith. 

The highly rated junior has inked a three-year deal to make the journey from the foot of the mountains to the Eels.

"Isaiah is a talented player with a promising future, he will be a wonderful addition to our backline next season," General Manager Mark O’Neill said. 

"We look forward to welcoming him and his family at our club in the coming months."

Jake Clifford re-signs with Cowboys

Jake Clifford has inked a one-year extension to continue his stay at North Queensland. 

The playmaker, who started his NRL career at the Cowboys before venturing to Newcastle and Hull FC, returned to the club last year on a one-year deal. 

Clifford has made a great impression in the Queensland Cup while stuck behind Chad Townsend this campaign but has a chance to establish himself as the first-choice halfback in 2025 following the veteran's departure. 

Meanwhile, Semi Valemei has also agreed to a one-year contract extension at the club after arriving from Canberra midway through last season. 

"We’re pleased Semi has agreed to stay on for 2025," the club's General Manager of Football Micheal Luck said.

"He provides great competition in a position we have a number of promising young players who will benefit from the influence Semi has both on the training field and in games."

Bailey Simonsson re-signs with Eels

Bailey Simonsson has locked in his future, inking a three-year extension with Parramatta.

The 26-year-old outside back has been one of the Eels' most consistent performers since signing with the club in 2022 after a stint with the Raiders.

"I love this club and everybody involved in it. I feel at home here, so it was an easy decision for me to stay and work towards where I want to be and where the club deserves to be," he said.
 
"I'm very grateful to the club for sticking by me through my injury and I'm keen to give back to them and our fans with my performances over the next three years."

Valentine Holmes inks Dragons contract

Valentine Holmes' time at North Queensland is soon to be over, with the experienced outside back to link up with the Dragons in 2025.

The 28-year-old has signed a three-year deal with the club.

Dragons coach Shane Flanagan has a storied history with the player having won the 2016 premiership together while both men were still at Cronulla.

"Valentine is a top-class, versatile player who will be a great asset for our club over the coming seasons," Flanagan said in a statement after Holmes' signing was announced on Thursday.

"He has played centre, wing and fullback at the elite level over a long period and is also a fantastic goal-kicker.

"We look forward to welcoming Val and his family to the Red V next year."

Daniel Tupou re-signs with Roosters

Daniel Tupou will remain as a one-club player for the rest of his career after inking a two-year extension with the Roosters. 

The winger, who has been a key part of the side ever since debuting for the club in 2012, was due to come off-contract at the end of the season. 

"Daniel has been the cornerstone of our team for more than a decade now and he is someone we all regard very highly and respect," Trent Robinson said.

"His incredible work ethic and dedication to the team is a reflection of the special player and person ‘Toops’ is, so I’m really pleased that his experience will continue to benefit those around him." 

Trai Fuller re-signs with Dolphins

The Dolphins have locked down Trai Fuller on an upgraded and extended contract. 

The fullback inked a two-year deal that will take him through until at least the end of the 2026 campaign. 

"Trai has done everything right to get himself into this position," the club's chief executive Terry Reader said. 

"Last year he had limited opportunity in the NRL but demonstrated his talent and development by being named Player of the Year in the Queensland Cup competition.

"This season he has showed he belongs in the NRL and the new contract is the reward for that." 

Jarrod Wallace departs from Dolphins

Jarrod Wallace has been granted an early release from his contract with the Dolphins in order to join Catalans for the remainder of the season. 

The veteran forward, who has played 212 NRL games and represented Queensland in Origin six times, has found his playing time limited in first grade this season. 

"To add a player of Jarrod’s quality and experience at this stage of the season is a huge boost to our squad," Dragons coach Steve McNamara said. 

Sitili Tupouniua to leave Roosters and join Bulldogs

Sitili Tupouniua has been granted an early release from his deal with the Roosters at the end of the season, in order to sign with Canterbury. 

The Tongan international has agreed to a four-year deal at Belmore. 

"The Roosters and the people at the club will always be my family," the 27-year-old said upon the confirmation of his exit. 

"I’m so thankful for all the opportunities I have had, and for the lifelong friendships I have made. 

"I’m keen to keep giving my all, playing my role and doing the best I can for the Roosters for the rest of this year."

Jamie Humphreys signs with Rabbitohs

Jamie Humphreys will leave Manly at the end of the season after inking a two-year deal with South Sydney. 

The 22-year-old playmaker made his debut for the Sea Eagles during their Round 19 win over Newcastle, where he scored a try during a dream day. 

"Jamie is a player we have kept our eye on for a number of years and we have always been impressed by his style of play and his work ethic," the club's Head of Football Mark Ellison said. 

"He made his first-grade debut yesterday, scoring a try and kicking three goals, and we have seen him play a number of games in the Pre-Season Challenge.

"He has always played strongly at either hooker or in the halves."

Luke Keary joins Catalans Dragons

Luke Keary will depart from the Sydney Roosters at the end of the season and join the Catalans Dragons. 

The veteran playmaker initially signed an extension at the Chooks only to backflip and announce his retirement. 

However, in his final decision he has elected to move to the Super League on a two-year contract. 

"Luke will be a sensational addition to our team next season," Dragons coach Steve McNamara said. 

"He is an outstanding player, leader and person. We are very happy he has chosen to come to Dragons in 2025."

Raiders lose Elliott Whitehead and announce English new signing

Canberra will farewell Elliott Whitehead at the end of the season with the English international bringing an end to a decade-long stay in the nation's capital. 

Whitehead has inked a one-year to re-join the Catalans Dragons in the Super League.

Meanwhile, the Raiders will bring in Matty Nicholson after signing the Warrington forward on a three-year deal. 

The 20-year-old made his Test debut for England last year and will continue the long tradition of Super League stars making the move over to Canberra. 

Josh Aloiai re-signs with Sea Eagles

Manly prop Josh Aloiai has re-signed on a two-year contract which will keep him at the club until at least the end of the 2027 campaign. 

The 28-year-old was due to come off contract at the end of next season but will now remain at the Sea Eagles. 

"I feel like Josh has been in as good as form as he has ever been in his career at the moment," Anthony Seibold said. 

"Josh is a real mentor to the younger forwards in guys like Haumole Olakau’atu and Gordon Chan Kum Tong. 

"To have him commit his future to the club is very pleasing. I really enjoy working with him. He has an influential and positive effect on our group."

Jack De Belin re-signs with Dragons

Jack De Belin has put months of speculation around his future to bed after inking a new deal with St George Illawarra. 

The veteran has signed a one-year contract extension which will see him remain at the club until at least the end of the 2025 season. 

"Jack has impressed the coaching staff with his form this year and we are pleased to be able to retain him for another season," Shane Flanagan said.

"He has been a consistent presence through the middle of the field while his work mentoring our next generation of forwards continues to benefit the entire squad."

Tyson Gamble earns new contract with the Knights

Tyson Gamble has signed a new contract with the Newcastle Knights that will keep him in the Hunter until 2026.

Gamble has played 28 games for the club since joining last year, with the Knights saying the extension was a reward for the effort he has put in week in week out.

“Tyson has been a major contributor since his arrival at the Knights,” the club said in a statement.

“His energy and enthusiasm are contagious for everyone around him, he plays with a toughness that has earned the respect of his teammates and this community. 

“This selfless attitude Tyson brings to our club has meant extending his contract was an easy decision, we are delighted he will remain a Newcastle Knight.” 

Gamble is currently sidelined with a broken foot, but hopes to return to action in the coming weeks.

Alec MacDonald and Grant Anderson re-sign with Storm

Alec Macdonald has signed a long-term contract which will see him remain at the Melbourne Storm until at least the end of the 2028 season. 

The forward joined the club in 2022 and has since gone on to establish himself as a regular in the 17 each week. 

"I’m stoked to have been given a contract for the next few years," the 22-year-old said. 

"It feels like all my hard work has paid off. I can now focus on my footy and improving even more."

Meanwhile, the Storm also announced the re-signing of Grant Anderson on a one-year deal. 

"This is my third year here now and I’m stoked to be here for longer because the club is like a second family," the 24-year-old said.

Carter Gordon joins the Titans after rugby exit

Carter Gordon has started to train with Gold Coast after being granted an early release from the remainder of his Rugby Australia contract.

The 23-year-old inked a two-year deal with the Titans from 2025 onwards but will now be able to integrate himself at the club in the second half of the season. 

"It's exciting to be joining early and I'm really eager to come in with an open mind and learn from the squad who have been playing rugby league their whole lives," Gordon said. 

"This game is something I've always been interested in, so I'm excited to begin the transition and to get the chance to start training early is something I'm really grateful for."

Chad Townsend signs with Roosters

Chad Townsend has inked a one-year contract with the Sydney Roosters. 

The veteran halfback, who wasn't offered a new deal by the North Queensland Cowboys, will replace Luke Keary on the roster. 

"It’s great to be adding Chad’s experience, and we look forward to welcoming him to the club later this year," the club's Head of Recruitment Daniel Anderson said. 

Daine Laurie extends stay with Panthers

Daine Laurie has re-signed with Penrith which will see him remain with the Panthers until at least the end of the 2025 campaign.

"Re-signing with the Panthers means heaps to me because I love this club," Laurie said. 

"Panthers was the first team I played for, and this place is home to me. I can’t wait to rip in for the rest of the season and then again next year."

Angus Crichton re-signs with Roosters

Angus Crichton has signed a new two-year contract extensions after drawn out negotiations finally came to an end. 

The backrower appeared destined for an exit when the club announced the signature of David Fifita. 

However, after a spectacular backflip from the Titans star, the Roosters have acted quickly to lock down the representative star. 

"I’m incredibly proud to continue my journey with the Sydney Roosters," Crichton said.

"This team is like family to me, and so are the people within the club. There’s honestly nowhere else I’d rather be."

Gordon Chan Kum Tong re-signs with Sea Eagles

Gordon Chan Kum Tong will remain at Manly until at least the end of the 2025 campaign after inking a one-year deal.  

The 22-year-old, who was due to come off-contract at the end of the campaign, has featured six times for the Sea Eagles since debuting last year. 

"Gordie brings a lot of energy and is a fantastic team first type of person," Anthony Seibold said. 

"We feel like he is getting better and better with his football. He is right at the beginning of his NRL career at only 22."

Panthers announce five re-signings

Luron Patea, Billy Scott, Trent Toelau, Luke Sommerton and Billy Phillips have signed new deals at Penrith. 

Patea has been elevated to the main squad on a contract which runs through until the end of the 2027 campaign, while Scott has also committed for the same time period. 

Toelau has agreed to a deal which will see him promoted to the NRL squad in 2026 from off a development deal, while Phillips has committed to the club for the next three seasons.

Meanwhile, Sommerton has signed a one-year contract extension. 

Nick Cotric to depart from the Raiders

Nick Cotric will leave the Canberra Raiders at the end of the season after inking a deal with Catalans. 

The academy product debuted for the Raiders as a teenager in 2017 and went on to represent Australia and New South Wales. 

The winger has signed a three-year-deal with the Dragons. 

David Armstrong backflips on Knights, signs with Leigh 

Newcastle have revealed they have allowed David Armstrong to backflip on his deal with the club in order to link up with the Leigh Leopards. 

"The Knights have decided they will not stand in the way of David Armstrong accepting an offer to join the Leigh Leopards at the end of the 2024 season," the club noted. 

"Armstrong will play for the Knights for the remainder of the year, and we look forward to David continuing his strong form for the club."

Damien Cook to leave the Rabbitohs and join Dragons

Damien Cook will finish his time at South Sydney at the end of the campaign in order to link up with St George Illawarra Dragons. 

"The Dragons are proud to announce the signing of Damien Cook for the 2025 and 2026 seasons," the club noted. 

"A Helensburgh Tigers junior, Cook made his NRL debut for the Dragons in 2013, playing two NRL games."

After a brief stint with Canterbury, Cook joined the Rabbitohs in 2016 and went on to establish himself as one of the best No.9s in the game.

Yet the 32-year-old was allowed to explore his options beyond next year by the Bunnies with the club looking to go down another route at dummy-half for 2025 and beyond.

Raiders sign Under 19s Origin trio

Canberra have announced the triple signing of former NSW under 19s Origin stars Ethan Sanders, Myles Martin and Savelio Tamale. 

Sanders has signed a three-year deal after his rumoured defection from Parramatta has finally been made official. 

The halfback will be joined in the nation's capital by Newcastle forward Myles Martin, who is also on a three-year contract. 

Meanwhile, Tamale will move from St George Illawarra Dragons on a two-year deal. 

“We’re really excited to have Ethan, Myles and Savelio join us in 2025 and we know they have the talent and drive to take their games to the next level,” the club's ecruitment Manager Joel Carbone said. 

“We’ve demonstrated that our club provides opportunity and a clear pathway to the NRL and we look forward to them joining us in 2025 and wish them all the best for the remainder of their seasons with their current clubs.”

Panthers re-sign Jesse and Casey McLean

Penrith have announced the re-signings of brothers and local juniors Jesse and Casey McLean.

The duo have inked long-term deals to remain at the Panthers until at least the end of the 2028 campaign. 

Jesse made his NRL debut for the club last season and will be aiming to establish himself in the side over the coming years, while Casey is still yet to make his first grade debut. 

"The Panthers prides itself on the built from within mantra and it’s always rewarding to see local juniors commit to the club," Penrith's CEO Matt Cameron said. 

"Not only are the McLean brothers highly talented rugby league players, but they are also wonderful young men who live out the values of the Panthers," the club's General Manager of Football Shane Elford added. 

Adam Doueihi re-signs with Wests Tigers

Adam Doueihi has re-signed with the Wests Tigers on a short-term deal despite reportedly knocking back an offer from the club just a few weeks ago. 

The Lebanon international, who is working his way back from the third ACL injury of his career, will remain at Concord until at least the end of the 2025 season. 

"I’m still only 25 and I know my best years are ahead of me," Doueihi said. 

"I’ll be working as hard as I can over the rest of this season and next season and I’m excited about the years ahead."

Jeremy Marshall-King signs contract extension with Dolphins

Jeremy Marshall-King has put to rest any lingering rumours that he will join Wayne Bennett in Redfern next year by signing a new deal with the Dolphins.

The hooker, who was already contracted through until next season, has inked a three-year extension.

"Jeremy is one of the most underrated players in the NRL competition," the club’s chief executive Terry Reader said.

"And it is fair to say that people are quickly realising how important he is to our team."

Mitch Barnett re-signs with Warriors 

Mitch Barnett has inked a two-year contract extension to remain at the New Zealand Warriors. 

Barnett has enjoyed career-best form since making the move across the ditch from Newcastle as he has been named in New South Wales' squad for the first two Origin games. 

"Mitch absolutely epitomises toughness, resilience and leadership," Andrew Webster said. 

"Through the tough period we endured, Mitch was the glue. He worked so hard and really deserved his Origin call-up.

"He ticks all the boxes. The harder it gets, the better he gets."

Nathan Brown re-signs with Sea Eagles

Manly have handed Nathan Brown a new two-year extension after the veteran originally joined the Sea Eagles in the pre-season on a train and trial contract. 

"We are very happy now to extend Nathan for another two years which is a great reward for his performances off the bench this season," Anthony Seibold said. 

"The biggest thing I can say about Nathan is that in a really short time here, he has become a bit of a cult hero at Manly because people like the way he plays."

Asu Kepaoa leaves Tigers and signs with Panthers

Asu Kepaoa has signed with the Penrith Panthers after being granted an early release from his Tigers contract. 

The 24-year-old has signed with the club until the end of the 2025 campaign. 

Meanwhile, Ativalu Lisati will move on from the Panthers after the forward was released from his deal in order to sign with Melbourne. 

"Valu has been a great player for our club over the past few years, and made a positive impact on those around him," Penrith CEO Matt Cameron said.

"On behalf of all at Panthers, I’d like to thank Valu for his service and wish him all the best for the future."

Trey Mooney re-signs with Raiders

Trey Mooney will remain in the nation's capital until at least the end of the 2027 campaign after signing a three-year extension. 

The 22-year-old has established himself as a regular in Ricky Stuart's side this year, featuring seven times since breaking into the side in Round 6.

"I’m happy to extend my time here. This is a family club and something I want to be a part of going forward," Mooney said. 

Junior Pauga re-signs with Roosters

Fetalaiga Pauga has inked a two-year contract extension to remain at the Sydney Roosters until at least the end of the 2027 season.

"I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to extend my time with the Sydney Roosters," Pauga said. 

"The support from the coaches, my teammates, my family and Roosters members and fans has been amazing, and I am committed to continuing to work hard, giving my best and contributing to the team's success every day."

Pauga joined the club in 2023 and has gone on to make 14 appearances to date as he has proved to be a valuable squad player for Trent Robinson. 

Tyrell Sloan re-signs with Dragons

Tyrell Sloan has signed a two-year contract extension to remain at St George Illawarra. 

The 22-year-old is closing in on his 50-game milestone in the NRL after debuting for the Dragons in 2021 and has recently established himself as the club's long-term No.1 under Shane Flanagan. 

"Tyrell’s an exciting young player who continues to learn and improve every week," the coach said. 

"His efforts to improve all parts of his game this year have been really pleasing.

"We’re looking forward to seeing him continue to develop at the Dragons over the coming seasons."

Luke Garner re-signs with Panthers

Luke Garner has inked a new deal which will keep him at the foot of the mountains with the Panthers until at least the end of the 2026 campaign. 

"It means a lot to me to re-sign with the club for another two years," the 28-year-old said. 

"Ivan Cleary gave me my NRL debut back in the day and then it was special to win a grand final with him last year.

"To stick around here for another two years is pretty exciting. It’s great to see where this club is going and I’m looking forward to being a part of it."

Jason Saab re-signs with Sea Eagles

Jason Saab has re-signed with Manly on a long-term deal which will take him through until 2029. 

The winger, who has scored 53 tries in 75 NRL appearances, was already committed to the Sea Eagles until 2026 before inking new terms. 

"The improvement Jason has shown over the last 18 months is significant," Anthony Seibold said of the 23-year-old. 

"I believe he can now become an elite winger and a representative class winger."

Jake Simpkin signs with Sea Eagles after Tigers exit

Jake Simpkin has been granted an early release from his deal at the Wests Tigers in order to link up with Manly.

The dummy-half will depart from Concord immediately after signing a two-and-a-half-year contract with the Sea Eagles.

“We are very pleased to welcome Jake to Manly,” Anthony Seibold said as the club re-enforced their stocks at hooker with the imminent exit of Karl Lawton.

“He is a quality player who has already gained plenty of experience in the NRL for a young man.

“Jake adds some depth in the hooking role and we feel this is a very good addition to our playing group.”

Coen Hess re-signs with Cowboys

Coen Hess has signed a three-year contract extension which will likely see him become a one club player in the NRL. 

The forward made his debut for the Cowboys in 2015 and has since gone on to establish himself as a key member of Todd Payten's side. 

"He has been a huge contributor to this club over a long period of time and is a point of difference for us on the field with the work he churns through as well as his enthusiasm and intensity," GM of Football Micheal Luck said. 

Meanwhile, the news comes off the back of the club also locking down Tom Mikaele on a two-year deal. 

AJ Brimson signs long-term deal to remain with Gold Coast

Gold Coast Titans have secured the services of AJ Brimson long term with the star agreeing to a monster new deal. 

The contract extension will take the Queenslander through until at least the end of the 2030 campaign, with Brimson joining captain Tino Fa'asuamaleaui in committing long-term to the club. 

"The Titans mean quite a bit to me," the 25-year-old said. 

"It’s been my home and my work for the last 10 years. I started as a 15-year-old coming through the ranks and have been full-time since 2017.

"I love playing for this club and I love the Gold Coast." 

Isaiah Papali'i to leave Tigers and join the Panthers in 2025

After being rebuffed by David Fifita, Penrith have landed a marquee backrower for 2025 onwards. 

Angus Crichton was reportedly in their sights, but the men from the foot of the mountains have instead signed Isaiah Papali'i on a three-year deal. 

The New Zealand international was released from his lucrative contract at the Wests Tigers in order to negotiate with rivals and the Panthers have pounced. 

"Not only does Isaiah bring a wealth of experience and leadership capabilities to our club, but he’s also a world-class forward who has proven himself at the highest level," the club's CEO Matt Cameron said. 

Ray Stone to remain with the Dolphins after signing contract extension

Ray Stone has inked a two-year extension that will keep him with the Dolphins until at least the end of the 2026 campaign. 

The 26--year-old joined the club in their foundation year from Parramatta and quickly went on to establish himself as a favourite of Wayne Bennett. 

"Ray has been one of the real quiet achievers of our entry to the NRL," the club's CEO Terry Reader said.

"He has been a cornerstone of what we are trying to build here in the way he goes about his business with a minimum amount of fuss but with a maximum amount of effectiveness." 

Aaron Schoupp leaves Titans to join the Sea Eagles

Manly have signed Aaron Schoupp on a two-year deal after the centre was granted an early release from his deal with the Titans. 

The 22-year-old had managed just two appearances so far this season under Des Hasler, but will now link up with the Sea Eagles immediately. 

"Aaron adds depth to our squad as we have got a few injuries to our outside backs at the moment,'' Anthony Seibold said. 

Mark Nicholls extends Dolphins deal

Veteran forward Mark Nicholls will go around for at least one more year at the Dolphins. 

"He is a very popular player around the club, and the work he does and the knowledge he imparts in the dressing room to our younger players is as important as what he does on the field," the club's CEO Terry Reader said. 

Jaydn Su'A re-signs with Dragons

Jayden Su'A has inked a two-year contract extension to remain at St George Illawarra. 

The in-form backrower joined the club in 2022 and will remain at the Red V until at least the end of the 2026 campaign. 

"Jaydn’s performances this year have shown how important he is to this club and how determined he is to perform for the Dragons," Shane Flanagan said.

"He is just coming into his best football and we see him as a vital part of our forward pack over the coming years." 

David Fifita backflips on Roosters to remain with Titans

David Fifita has sensationally decided to take up his player option with the Titans for the 2025 and 2026 seasons.

The Queenslander looked set to leave the club after agreeing to join the Roosters, yet backflipped on the move just days after it was announced. 

"Despite his management making the initial approach the Roosters and Fifita personally informing the chairman and head coach of his intent to join the club, Fifita has since expressed doubt," the Roosters noted after revealing they had withdrawn their offer to him. 

Wayde Egan re-signs with Warriors

Wayde Egan has inked another contract extension which will see him remain in New Zealand until at least the end of the 2027 season. 

Egan was already contracted to the club through to 2025 but has opted to sign on for an extra two years. 

"Wayde has shown his class consistently as one of the best hookers in the game," Andrew McFadden said. 

"He is thriving in the environment we have here and he’s passionate about the club. We’re thrilled to have him with us long term."

Daniel Tupou reportedly re-signs with the Roosters

Daniel Tupou has reportedly signed a contract extension that will see him remain in Bondi, according to a report from The Daily Telegraph.  

The veteran was believed to be on the outer at the club heading into the new campaign but has instead earned himself a new deal after a strong start to the season. 

Dane Gagai re-signs with Knights

Dane Gagai has reportedly rebuffed interest from the Roosters in order to remain in Newcastle with the Knights. 

The centre has signed for least two more years, with a mutual option for 2027.

Lewis Dodd makes move to South Sydney

St Helens playmaker Lewis Dodd will depart from the Super League at the end of the season and join South Sydney. 

The English international has inked a three-year deal from 2025 that keeps him at Redfern until the end of the 2027 season. 

"Lewis is one of the rising stars in England and he indicated to us that he wanted to test himself in the NRL and the Rabbitohs were the club he wanted to do that with," the club's Head of Football Mark Ellison said.

Luke Keary and Dale Finucane announce retirements

Luke Keary and Dale Finucane have called times on their careers, with the latter entering into retirement immediately. 

The Roosters veteran announced his decision after the Anzac Day clash against the Dragons, despite signing an extension with the Bondi club last month. 

Meanwhile, the Sharks forwards outlined how repeated head knocks had led to his decision to walk away from the game. 

Billy Walters re-signs with the Broncos

Brisbane have handed Billy Walters a two-year contract extension which will keep the hooker at Red Hill until at least the end of the 2026 season. 

"I'm super stoked to stay," the 30-year-old said. 

"I didn't want to go anywhere else and the club was happy to keep me, so it's a good result." 

Kulikefu Finefeuiaki signs with the Dolphins

Kulikefu Finefeuiaki has inked a three-year deal with the Dolphins from 2025 onwards. 

The promising backrower broke onto the scene at the Cowboys as a teenager last season and has since established himself as a regular in Todd Payten's side. 

"The Dolphins have always said that recruitment was not just about year one and that we would take our time to build the squad and gain in strength with the right players," the club's CEO Terry Reader said. 

The news comes with the Cowboys also announcing they have granted fellow backrower Jack Gosiewski an early release. 

He has been tipped to sign with the Broncos for the remainder of the season. 

Panthers winger Sunia Turuva signs with Tigers

The Tigers have made a major addition to their offensive ranks for 2025, signing Penrith winger Turuvua on a three-year deal.

Turuva is the NRL's leading tryscorer this season (as of April 26) after bursting onto the scene as a rookie in 2023.

At Leichhardt, he will link up with former Panthers hooker Api Koroisau, current Penrith half Jarome Luai and fellow Fijian Jahream Bula.

"Sunia is a great signing for us as a club moving forward," Tigers coach Benji Marshall said.

"He is a premiership winner and a genuine footy player who also has great versatility.

"He is electric and brings great energy to the field every time he plays. Most of all he is a great person with great values."

The signing follows the news that James Fisher-Harris will also depart the Panthers at the end of the season to join the Warriors.

Max Plath re-signs with Dolphins

Max Plath has inked a new deal with the Dolphins that will take him through until the end of the 2027 season. 

"Max is the perfect example of the saying that hard work is just as or even more important than talent,” the club's CEO Terry Reader.

"There is no doubt he is a talented footballer, but the hard work he has done through last year and the recent pre-season have really set him up for success.

"He only made his debut midway through last year, but he has already managed to turn himself into an important part of the Dolphins squad."

Jett Cleary joins the Warriors from the Panthers

Jett Cleary will follow in the footsteps of his father, Ivan, after signing a three-year deal with the Warriors from 2025. 

"It's an exciting time for us to be able to bring a player of Jett's quality into our pathways system from next season," the club's CEO Cameron George said. 

"The Cleary family has the strongest links with our club through Ivan's time with us and it's a special thrill to sign Jett and have the Cleary name back with us."

Heilum Luki signs long-term contract with Cowboys

Heilum Luki has signed a five-year deal to remain with the Cowboys until at least the end of the 2029 campaign. 

"Heilum joins Tom Dearden as players who are committed to our club for the longest duration, which as two North Queensland products we are thrilled about," General Manager of Football Micheal Luck said.

"We believe he’s only just scratched the surface of his potential and are delighted we will have the opportunity to have him grow in a Cowboys jersey into the player and leader we know he will be."

Luki made his debut for North Queensland in 2021 and has since gone on to make 40 appearances for the club.

Karl Lawton signs with the Cowboys

The North Queensland Cowboys have signed utility Karl Lawton on a two-year contract which will take him through until the end of 2026.

The 28-year-old will leave Manly at the end of the current campaign. 

"We’re thrilled to be able to secure a player of Karl’s experience for 2025 and beyond," the club's General Manager Micheal Luck said.

"He brings all the attributes Todd loves as a coach – competitiveness, fitness, skill and versatility."

Ethan Strange signs long-term contract to remain at the Raiders

Canberra have rewarded Ethan Strange's red-hot start to life in first grade with a new deal. 

The long-term contract will tie the five-eighth to the nation's capital until at least the end of the 2028 season. 

"This place has become my home and I love it and all the boys here," the 19-year-old said.

"Having other guys I’ve played with who are my really good mates like Chevy (Stewart) and Micky (Asomua) all staying a bit longer makes it easy for me.

Joey Manu confirms Roosters exit

Joey Mau has announced his departure from the Sydney Roosters at the end of the season. 

The star Kiwi is one of several big names set to depart the Bondi Junction-based outfit at the end of 2024, after he signed with Japanese rugby side Toyota Verblitz. 

"I have cherished my time playing rugby league for the Roosters, so it’s been a tough decision to leave the club and NRL," Manu said.

Zac Lomax joins the Eels on long-term deal

After weeks of speculation, Zac Lomax has confirmed his arrival at Parramatta next year, signing a four-year deal. 

Lomax was contracted through until 2026 at the Dragons, however it was agreed by both parties that these years would be terminated to allow them to go their separate ways. 

"He complements our existing playing squad, and with almost 100 NRL games to his name since his debut in 2018, his experience will help the strong group of young players coming through our pathways system," Eels CEO Jim Sarantinos said. 

Jye Gray re-signs with the Rabbitohs

South Sydney prospect Jye Gray has inked a two-year contract extension ahead of his NRL debut in Round 6. 

"I’m just so grateful for the opportunity that Souths have given me to play for this club," Gray said after signing a deal which will take him through until 2026. 

"We have a great playing group here and I can’t wait to run out with the boys in my debut on the weekend."

Michael Molo re-signs with Dragons 

The Dragons have locked down one of their top-performing players for at least one more year, with Michael Molo signing an extension through the end of 2025. 

"Michael has now established himself as an NRL player and a valuable part of our squad," Dragons coach Shane Flanagan said via a statement.

"He is just coming into his best football and we look forward to seeing his development over the next season and a half."

Lindsay Collins re-signs with Roosters

Already signed to the club until the end of 2026, Lindsay Collins' two-year extension ensures he will remain a Rooster until at least the end of the 2028 season.

“I consider myself very fortunate to put on the Sydney Roosters jersey and to represent this great club. We’ve got a great crew here and I love coming to work every day, so to know that I will be a Rooster for at least the next four years is something I’m very proud of,” said Collins.

27-year-old Collins has made 94 first grade appearances since making his NRL debut with the club in 2017 and has established himself as one of the most dominant front-rowers in the competition as a representative of both his state (Queensland) and country (Australia).

Nick Meaney re-signs with Storm

Nick Meaney has inked a new deal which will keep him at the Melbourne Storm until at least the end of the 2026 campaign.

The versatile former Dogs star filled in admirably for Ryan Papenhuyzen at fullback last year and has since converted into a centre to accommodate his return. 

"Making the move to Melbourne has been a great decision career-wise and just for life in general," Meaney said upon the announcement of the two-year deal.

"We are delighted that Nick has extended his time with our club," Melbourne's General Manager of Football, Frank Ponissi, said. 

"Not only is he a valuable player because of his wonderful versatility in playing in so many positions, but more impressively he has been one of our most consistent and reliable players since he debuted for the club in Round 1, 2022."

Francis Molo re-signs with Dragons

Francis Molo has signed a two-year contract extension which will keep the 29-year-old at the club until the end of the 2026 season.

“Francis is thoroughly deserving of this extension given the way he has bought into where we are going as a team,” Shane Flanagan said.

“I am looking forward to him playing a pivotal role in our forward pack as we continue to build the roster over the coming months.”

Sam McIntyre re-signs with Cowboys

Sam McIntyre has inked a contract extension which will keep him in Townsville until at least the end of the 2026 season.

The 26-year-old joined the Cowboys mid-way through last year but struggled to establish himself as a regular until this campaign. 

“Sam came to our club looking for an opportunity and has impressed everyone in the building through his professionalism, work ethic and what he’s done on the field both at Queensland Cup level and now in the NRL,” the club's General Manager of Football Micheal Luck said.

Isaiya Katoa re-signs with Dolphins

Isaiya Katoa has re-signed with the Dolphins for three more years on a deal which will keep the Tongan international at the club until at least the end of the 2028 campaign. 

The 20-year-old has played over 20 matches for Wayne Bennett's side since his move from Penrith. 

After missing out on selection for the side's season opener this season, he was reinstated into the side and helped guide the Dolphins to their first win against the Dragons in the second round. 

Taylan May inks new deal with the Panthers

Fresh off the news of fellow centre Izack Tago signing an extension, Penrith have announced that Taylan May has also re-committed to the club.

"This club and the Panthers jersey means a lot to and I'm proud to stay here for another couple years - this play is home," the 22-year-old said after agreeing to a two-year extension. 

Since making his debut in 2021, May has quickly established himself as a regular in Ivan Cleary's all-conquering side, firstly on the wing and now in the centres. 

Warriors re-sign two young stars on two-year deals

Luke Metcalf and Freddy Freddy Lussick have signed two-year contract extensions at the Warriors. 

"I’m really excited to extend," Metcalf said.

"I don’t see myself going anywhere else.

Canterbury have announced the signing of veteran Zane Tetevano on a one-year deal.

"Zane is a highly respected senior player who will bring leadership and work ethic to our group," Dogs supremo Phil Gould said. 

The forward made his NRL debut in 2011 before later joining the Sydney Roosters and becoming a premiership player in 2018. 

The 33-year-old last appeared in the NRL for Penrith until he was granted a release to join Leeds in the Super League, where he has plied his trade before the Dogs came calling.

Cronulla have re-signed prop Tuku Hau Tapuha on a one-year extension on the eve of the new campaign.

The South Sydney Rabbitohs have secured their long-term replacement for Damien Cook, with Peter Mamouzelos signing a three-year contract extension.

Justin Olam and Shawn Blore involved in swap deal

Melbourne and Wests Tigers have reached an agreement which will see centre Justin Olam head to Concord on a three-year-deal, while the Storm will receive backrower Shawn Blore. 

Melbourne have reported to have been interested in Blore for years and have finally landed their man, with the club's CEO Justin Rodski signing his praises. 

"We are really excited about bringing Shawn into the Storm system," Rodski said. "He is rated as one of the most promising younger players in the game having represented the Junior Kangaroos and NSW Under 18s."

Meanwhile, Olam's stay in Melbourne is over with the Papua New Guinea international heading to the Tigers to continue Benji Marshall's rebuild. 

"It is always difficult to say goodbye to players who have made such a great contribution to our club like Juzzi, but it also presents both he and Shawn a new opportunity to continue their careers in a new setting."

Waqa Blake departs from Parramatta to join Saints

Waqa Blake has left Parramatta and signed a one-year deal with St Helens in the Super League.

The Fijian international, who amassed 165 games in the NRL during stints with the Eels and Panthers, wasn't offered a new contract after falling out of favour under Brad Arthur last season. 

Zac Hosking signs with Canberra Raiders after Penrith release

Canberra have landed backrower Zac Hosking on a three-year deal after the 26-year-old was granted an immediate release by Penrith. 

"In the brief time we’ve known Zac, and through watching him play in the NRL over the last few seasons, it’s evident that his work ethic, ability, and character will be great additions to our club," Canberra's recruitment manager Joel Carbone said. 

"He also adds some versatility to our squad having played several positions in his career and we’re delighted to have him on board."

Brandon Wakeham finds new club after Wests Tigers exit

After failing to secure a new contract at Wests Tigers, Brandon Wakeham has found a new club with the 25-year-old joining Manly’s New South Wales Cup feeder club Blacktown Workers Sea Eagles. 

Wakeham will be eligible for selection for Anthony Seibold's side from Round 11 onwards in 2024. 

"Brandon has played 40 NRL games through stints at Canterbury and the Wests Tigers," Blacktown’s general manager of football Todd Darvall said. 

"He will be a key asset in leading our Blacktown team around the field this season. His knowledge and leadership qualities will be invaluable."

Canterbury sign talented teenager Mitchell Woods 

The Bulldogs have signed teenager Mitchell Woods on a three-year deal, with the playmaker set to join the Top 30 squad in 2025. 

The local junior, who captained Canterbury's Harold Matthews side to the title last season, was reportedly being pursued by a host of different codes. 

"Mitchell could have chosen any number of sporting codes to pursue a professional career, our game is lucky that Mitchell has chosen rugby league," Bulldogs chief Phil Gould stated. 

"The Bulldogs are both honoured and excited that Mitchell has chosen our club."

Jarome Luai signs five-year deal with Wests Tigers from 2025

Jarome Luai has brought an end to the swirling speculation around his future after making the move to Wests Tigers on a five-year deal from 2025. 

"I've definitely gotten a lot more attention than what we would have liked these past few months," Luai told the media at a press conference he arranged. 

"The purpose of this was to clear everything up and get everything out of the way out of respect and courtesy for the year ahead for my team and my teammates in 2024. 

"So, without further ado, for 2025 I’ll be heading to the Wests Tigers to continue my career."

Moses Suli re-signs with Dragons on three-year deal

After a string of disappointments in the player market, the Dragons have been handed a boost with Moses Suli signing an extension to remain at the club until at least the end of 2027. 

The Tongan international, who has made 39 appearances or the Red V since joining in 2022, was praised by coach Shane Flanagan upon announcement of the re-signing.

"He’s a powerful, mobile centre whose best football is still in front of him and he will be a key part of our backline over the coming years," the coach said. 

Junior Tupou signs with the Dolphins from 2025

Junior Tupou has signed a three-year deal to join the Dolphins from 2025, further improving their attacking weapons in the backline.

The Wests Tigers young gun made his NRL debut in 2022 and has since gone on to feature in 26 games for the club. 

The 21-year-old was often a shining light for the wooden spooners during an otherwise horrid campaign this year, scoring six tries and regularly showcasing his destructive running capabilities. 

"The signing of Junior adds even more depth to our squad as we look ahead to establishing ourselves as a strong club of the future," Dolphins' CEO, Terry Reader, said. 

"He is one of the most exciting young backs in the NRL at the moment so we will be excited to have him join our evolving roster."

Addin Fonua-Blake joins the Sharks in bombshell move

Addin Fonua-Blake has been the subject of conjecture ever since announcing his intention to leave the New Zealand Warriors and return to Australia to be closer to his family. 

After initially convincing the prop to remain at the club in 2024, the Warriors have now confirmed AFB will depart at the end of next year to link up with Cronulla. They will receive an as-yet-unnamed player in return. 

The Sharks beat the likes of the Dragons and the Bulldogs to the signing of the 28-year-old who has inked a long-term deal with Craig Fitzgibbon's side from 2025 onwards.

Tom Dearden inks long-term deal to stay with Cowboys

Tom Dearden has signed a five-year deal to remain in Townsville, with the Cowboys fending off interest from NRL rivals to lock down the playmaker. 

The 22-year-old was reported to have been a target for the Dragons after he hit the open market in November, however he has instead opted to remain with North Queensland. 

The extension will keep him at the club he joined two years ago from the Broncos until the end of 2029.

Naufahu Whyte re-signs with Sydney Roosters

Naufahu Whyte has been rewarded for his continued growth in the NRL, signing a two-year contract extension with the Sydney Roosters, keeping him at the club until the end of 2026. 

The versatile back-rower moved over from New Zealand as a teenager and has made 11 appearances in the top grade since making his debut two years ago, with eight of those games coming this season. 

Whyte was also named in the Kiwis squad for the recent Pacific Championships, but failed to feature during the tournament as he edges closer to an international debut.

The 21-year-old joins the likes of Siua Wong, Nat Butcher and Sitili Tupouniua in re-committing to the Roosters, who have moved to shore up their second-row stocks long-term.

St George Illawarra have added versatile outside back Corey Allan to their squad on a one-year deal.

Having spent time at the Rabbitohs, Bulldogs and Roosters, Allan has amassed plenty of experience across his 63-game NRL career.

Allan has scored 13 tries and will give incoming Dragons coach Shane Flanagan another depth option in the backs.

Solomon Alaimalo joins Tigers for 2024

Wests Tigers have landed in-demand rugby convert Solomon Alaimalo on a one-year deal.

The towering 27-year-old has previously starred in the Super Rugby, earning rookie of the year honours following his debut in 2017 with the Chiefs.

Several clubs were linked with a move for the Auckland-born outside back, but it's the Benji Marshall-led Tigers who have landed him.

Kurt Capewell granted early release, signs with Warriors

Kurt Capewell will officially join his fourth NRL club next year, with the representative back-rower granted a release by the Broncos and signing a three-year deal with the New Zealand Warriors.

The 30-year-old had been at Brisbane for the past two seasons, playing an integral role in their return to finals football and their recent grand final appearance, but was not in the club's plans beyond next year.

Capewell had been linked with a move to Auckland for the past month, with the Broncos opting to retain the likes of Jordan Riki and Brendan Piakura on long-term deals.

Jackson Ford, Rocco Berry ink fresh Warriors deals

Rocco Berry and Jackson Ford have been rewarded for standout campaigns, re-signing with the New Zealand Warriors beyond next year.

The pair were both set to come off-contract at the end of 2024, but the club have moved quickly to retain their services after they played a crucial role in the side's unlikely rise to the top-four and prelim finals.

Berry has extended his stay in Auckland until the end of 2026, while former Dragons back-rower Ford has inked a fresh one-year contract with the Warriors.

The news comes just days after the club announced the retention of inspirational captain Tohu Harris.

Warriors captain Tohu Harris signs one-year extension

New Zealand Warriors fans have been granted an early Christmas present, with courageous captain Tohu Harris signing a one-year contract extension.

The 31-year-old was one of the competition's most consistent players last season, making 23 appearances for the Wahs in their run to an unlikely prelim final berth. 

Harris was set to come off-contract at the end of next year and was technically available to rival clubs, but has opted to prolong his stay until at least the end of 2025.

The news comes as a major boost for the Warriors, who are set to lose star front-rower Addin Fonua-Blake. 

Cronulla Sharks add depth with Billy Burns signing

Billy Burns will head across the Tom Ugly's Bridge next season, signing a one-year deal with the Sharks.

After making his debut for Penrith as a teenager, the 25-year-old has been used sporadically for St George Illawarra in recent years, making 29 first grade appearances for the club over three seasons. 

"It's good to be here. It's a new kid at school type of feeling, but getting in here and meeting the boys, they're all genuine and good blokes," Burns said.

"I was attracted to the Sharks by how proud the club is, as well as the coaching staff with Fitzy leading the charge. The pride in the club and the jersey is something I wanted to be a part of."

Zac Laybutt re-signs with Cowboys until end of 2025

Promising young outside back Zac Laybutt has inked a fresh one-year extension with North Queensland, keeping him at the club until at least the end of 2025.

The 21-year-old made the jump to the NRL squad last season and earned a first grade debut, as well as featuring for Papua New Guinea during the end-of-year Pacific Championships tournament.

Cowboys head of football Micheal Luck lauded the signing as a major boost for the club moving forward.

“Zac is a tremendously talented young player, but what he was able to achieve last year exceeded the already high expectations we had for him,” he said. 

“What was most impressive was how he handled the step up through the grades from under 21s to Queensland Cup to the NRL and he looked comfortable with every progression.

“Zac is a very coachable young player who came into first grade as a centre, but he also has the ability to play five-eighth or fullback. We’re thrilled to have secured Zac for another year, he makes our club a better place."

Laybutt is expected to compete for the vacant centre role at the Cowboy in 2024, with veteran Peta Hiku moving on. 

Jacob Saifiti confirms three-year Knights extension

Jacob Saifiti has knocked back attempts from rival clubs to lure him away from Newcastle, with the representative front-rower officially inking a three-year contract extension.

The 27-year-old has cemented himself as the leader of the Knights forward pack in recent years alongside twin brother Daniel, playing over 140 matches for the club.

Shane Flanagan has made his latest signing as St. George Illawarra Dragons head coach, bringing in former Melbourne Storm forward Tom Eisenhuth on a one-year deal.

Connor Tracey departs Sharks, signs with Bulldogs

The Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs have officially secured the services of Connor Tracey from the Cronulla Sharks.

A utility back, Tracey will head to Belmore on a three-year deal as Phil Gould continues his recruitment drive.

It is widely reported — although not confirmed — that the Bulldogs have parted ways with promising teenager Michael Gabrael as part of a swap deal.

Nat Butcher signs three-year extension with Roosters

Sydney Roosters have continued their impressive recruitment and retention spree, with consistent back-rower Nat Butcher extending for a further three seasons.

The 26-year-old has cemented himself as a reliable fixture in the forward pack at Bondi in recent years, playing 126 first grade matches including the club's 2019 grand final triumph over Canberra.

“I’ve been part of the Roosters since I was 17 and it’s my home," he said. 

“We’ve got a great crew here and I love that everyone in the building is committed to the same goal, so I’m stoked that I’ll continue to be part of this club." 

Harley Smith-Shields released by Raiders, signs with Titans

Promising young centre Harley Smith-Shields has been granted an early release from his deal with the Raiders, officially putting pen to paper with the Titans. 

The outside back, who missed the entire 2022 season due to an ACL injury, struggled for game time in Canberra this past season, only appearing in the top grade on six occasions.

The 23-year-old will now move to the Gold Coast and battle with the likes of Aaron Schoupp, Brian Kelly and Jojo Fifita for a spot in the club's outside backs cartel under new head coach, Des Hasler. 

“Harley has shown he has a high level of football IQ and is looking for an opportunity to take his game to the next level... I’m confident he will be pushing to be part of our first grade squad on a regular basis," Hasler said. 

“We look forward to welcoming him to the Gold Coast and are excited to see where he can take his football at the Titans for 2024 and beyond.”

Canberra also announced the release of Brad Morkos from the final year of his contract. 

Toby Rudolf inks extension with Cronulla

Cronulla have re-signed cult hero Toby Rudolf which will keep the forward in the Shire until at least the end of the 2026 season.

Rudolf, who was due to come off-contract at the end of next season and free to negotiate with rival clubs, has inked a two-year contract with the Sharks.

Jordan Riki re-signs with Brisbane Broncos

A big week for the Broncos: first Piakura, now Jordan Riki.

Coming off arguably his finest NRL season, Broncos edge Riki has chosen to stay loyal to the Broncos, signing a three-year extension on Friday.

The extension will keep the 23-year-old at Red Hill through the 2027 season, and arguably lengthen the Broncos premiership window with the skilful backrower on 67 appearances into his NRL career.

Brendan Piakura re-signs with Brisbane Broncos

Brisbane have received a major boost heading into next season, with boom back-rower Brendan Piakura signing a three-year contract extension with the club.

The 21-year-old has long been touted as a future superstar and after biding his time in the lower grades, became a regular fixture for the Broncos in their charge towards the NRL Grand Final against Penrith.

After coming through the academy system at Red Hill, Piakura featured in 13 games for the club this past season and now looks set to become an integral part of the lineup for years to come.

Piakura's new deal comes after interest from a number of rival franchises since the November 1 free agency date, but the bustling edge forward has instead opted to remain at the Broncos until the end of 2027.

Ata Mariota, Michael Asomua extend with Raiders

Canberra have made two important retention moves heading into next season, with young guns Ata Mariota and Michael Asomua both inking fresh two-year deals.

The 21-year-old Mariota, who was born in Samoa and relocated to New Zealand in his formative years, has played 17 first grade games for the Raiders and has cemented himself as a permanent fixture in the lineup. 

The front-rower was already signed with the Green Machine until the end of next season, but his efforts on and off the field have prompted the club to lock him up long-term. 

Asomua on the other hand is yet to make the jump to NRL, but has produced some strong performances in the lower grades and will be upgraded to the top 30 roster as part of his new contract.

Sandon Smith re-signs with Sydney Roosters

Rising star Sandon Smith has secured his NRL future, inking a two-year contract extension with the Sydney Roosters.

The 20-year-old made his first grade debut this past season for the Tricolours, impressing in a myriad of roles during his 15 appearances, cementing himself late in the year as the club's No.14 utility. 

Smith has progressed through the lower grades at Bondi since joining as a 15-year-old and became the first player from the club's Central Coast partnership to make the jump to the top level. 

The decision comes after interest from a number of NRL rivals, with Smith knocking back a potential move despite the likes of Luke Keary, Sam Walker and Brandon Smith in front of him in the spine.

Cowboys young gun Tom Chester inks one-year extension

Promising utility Tom Chester has inked a one-year extension with the Cowboys, keeping him at the club until at least the end of the 2025 NRL season.

The local product made his NRL debut last year and has made nine appearances in the top grade, but suffered a devastating knee injury against the Sharks in Round 9.

The 22-year-old is capable of filling in at fullback, centre or in the halves and North Queensland's head of football Micheal Luck believes the best is yet to come for Chester.

“It was a horrible way to end what was a promising season for Tom last year, but he has worked as hard as anyone in our building to come back from injury over the last six months,” he said. 

“Tom still has a little way to go, but we know he won’t leave any stone unturned to make the best possible recovery.

“Tom is a terrific team man and he is a great asset for Todd [Payten] because he can play a number of positions. We believe his best spot is fullback, but we see potential for him to play in the outside backs as well.

“This additional year gives Tom some surety about his future as he makes his recovery from a serious injury.”

Charlie Staines re-signs for a further two years at Wests Tigers

Staines will have the opportunity to win a permanent spot in the backline after an injury-marred first season at Concord.

Staines scored three tries in nine appearances for Wests Tigers in 2023 after crossing for 23 tries in 38 appearances in his three seasons at Penrith Panthers.

Matt Moylan granted early release from Cronulla Sharks

The career of Matt Moylan in the NRL has officially come to a premature end, with the veteran playmaker granted an early release from his contract at the Sharks to take up a deal with Super League franchise, Leigh Leopards. 

The 32-year-old had been linked with a move away from Cronulla for a number of weeks, with his spot in the first grade lineup for next season unclear given the emergence of a number of younger players at the club.

Siua Wong inks fresh two-year Sydney Roosters deal

Sydney Roosters have tied down exciting rookie back-rower Siua Wong on a fresh two-year deal, after the young prospect enjoyed a breakout campaign in 2023.

The 20-year-old was due to come off-contract at the end of next season and was been free to negotiate with rivals from November 1, but the club have moved to lock in the boom youngster until the end of 2026.

Wong was a star for the Tricolours in their run into the finals and looks set to become a permanent fixture in the starting lineup next season, holding out the likes of Angus Crichton on the edge.

Connor Watson, Billy Smith re-sign with Roosters

Roosters duo Connor Watson and Billy Smith have both extended their stay with the club heading into 2024.

An experienced utility, Watson missed the entirety of last season due to a knee injury, but is expected to return next year and has signed a fresh two-year deal.

Smith on the other hand enjoyed his best season in the top grade and has re-signed for another year.

Storm re-sign Dean Ieremia, Grant Anderson and Tepai Moeroa

Melbourne have moved to sure up their top 30 squad for next season, extending outside backs Grant Anderson and Dean Ieremia, as well as experienced forward Tepai Moeroa.

All three players have inked fresh one-year contracts and will remain at the Storm until at least the end of 2024. 

Bulldogs add four new names for 2024 NRL season

Canterbury have continued their major signing spree for the 2024 season, adding four more players to their squad.

In an announcement on Wednesday, it was revealed that Knights utility Kurt Mann, Jake Turpin, Drew Hutchison and Poasa Faamausil will all join the Bulldogs on two-year deals.

Canberra Raiders have continued their rebuild in the nation's capital after signing Wigan lock-forward Morgan Smithies on a three-year deal. 

The former Warriors star, who made 114 appearances for his local club, follows in the footsteps of a host of other English players to join the Raiders, including Elliott Whitehead and John Bateman. 

Lachlan Croker inks two-year Manly Sea Eagles extension

Manly have been given a huge boost the day before the November 1st open market period, with reliable hooker Lachlan Croker signing a two-year extension with the club.

The 26-year-old has become one of the Sea Eagles' most consistent players in recent seasons, taking out the Best and Fairest Award in 2022 and playing over 100 games in the maroon jumper.

Josh Curran signs two-year deal with Canterbury Bulldogs

Josh Curran has been granted an early release by the New Zealand Warriors, with the back-rower officially signing a two-year deal with the Bulldogs beginning in the 2024 season. 

After being granted permission to negotiate with rival clubs, the 24-year-old has jumped at the opportunity to head to Canterbury, despite heavy interest from the St George Illawarra Dragons.
