The Tennessee Titans are in deep, deep trouble just three games into the 2024 season, as head coach Brian Callahan's squad hasn't won a single game, making them one of three winless teams in the NFL going into Week 4, along with the Cincinnati Bengals and the Jacksonville Jaguars.
But the Titans' problems extend beyond just their 0-3 record. Tennessee hasn't seen the growth it hoped for from quarterback Will Levis, the offensive line has been terrible, and the defense had a letdown performance in Week 3.
If you ask the average Titans fan about the playoffs, you will probably get a response similar to the one former Indianapolis Colts head coach Jim Mora had during his legendary press conference in 2001.
While understandable, the Titans aren't dead just yet when it comes to their playoff hopes, although it isn't looking good.
Six teams in NFL history have started a season 0-3 and still made the postseason, including the 1981 New York Jets (10-5-1), the 1982 Tampa Bay Buccaneers (5-4), the 1992 San Diego Chargers (11-5), the 1995 Detroit Lions (10-6), the 1998 Buffalo Bills (10-6), and the 2018 Houston Texans (11-5). Of those six teams, two won their division (Chargers and Texans).
One thing the Titans have going for them that those other teams didn't is a 17-game schedule. However, Tennessee's slate isn't going to get any easier, with six divisional matchups yet to play, on top of contests against the Bills, Lions, Minnesota Vikings and Chargers, all of whom sport a combined record of 10-2.
If you think the Titans are simply cooked, we don't blame you. But at least there is a shred of hope Tennessee can turn things around and avoid a lost season.
