The Seattle Seahawks played their worst game of the 2024 season so far on Sunday afternoon at home against the New York Giants. Despite being favored by seven points and the Giants missing their best playmaker in rookie wide receiver Malik Nabers, they got creamed in all three phases of the game en route to an embarrassing 29-20 defeat.
Let's see what we can learn from this week's Pro Football Focus grades for Seattle.
Tyler Lockett leads lackluster offense
Technically veteran wide receiver Tyler Lockett posted the highest PFF grade for the Seahawks offense this week, but in reality nobody on this unit really deserves any positive affirmation, including OC Ryan Grubb, who abandoned the run and didn't do nearly enough to protect Geno Smith. Lockett had an offense-best 70.5 overall grade, which isn't much better than PFF's average. Rookie tight end AJ Barner (70.4) wasn't far behind, while quarterback Geno Smith (70.0) took home the bronze medal.
Smith performed well under the circumstances, which amounted to more atrocious pass protection from his offensive line, especially at right tackle. Stone Forsythe posted the team's lowest offense grade for the second week in a row, coming in at 30.9 overall with a 35.4 in pass blocking. While most of the offensive line isn't playing well, Forsythe's issues put him in a league of his own. Nobody else on offense posted an overall grade lower than 55. Noah Fant (55.2) and DK Metcalf (also 55.2) were next up from the bottom.
Tyrel Dodson tops Seahawks defense
Seattle's defense wasn't a whole lot better, but there were a few more bright spots at least. Middle linebacker Tyrel Dodson earned the highest PFF grade on defense this week, posting an 80.3 overall with quality ratings all around, including tackling (80.8) and coverage (79.0). Fellow inside linebacker Jerome Baker came in second with a 72.3 overall grade, boosted by an 82.0 in run defense.
At the bottom end of things, cornerback Tre Brown (30.1 coverage), safety K'Von Wallace (23.7 tackling) and defensive tackle Myles Adams (27.6 run defense) earned the three lowest grades for the Seahawks defense this week.
Jake Bobo number one on special teams
On special teams second-year wide receiver Jake Bobo led the way with an 82.0 grade. Tre Brown and Laviska Shenault also earned high grades in this phase. Meanwhile, K'von Wallace earned the lowest grade here at 47.4.
Overall, this unit has become a dead weight after years of excellence under Larry Izzo. The return issues are ongoing, Jason Myers keeps missing makeable kicks and the blocked field goal at the end represented a new low. Rookie special teams coordinator Jay Harbaugh needs to shape this group up or he's not going to last long in this position.
