After starting out the season 3-0, it seemed like anything was possible for the Seattle Seahawks in 2024, including a trip to the Super Bowl. However, just two short weeks later this team is reeling as they head into their biggest game of the season so far on Thursday Night Football against the division rival San Francisco 49ers. Seattle has lost its last two games on the schedule, one on the road against Detroit, and another yesterday at home against the New York Giants.
As expected, the Seahawks are underdogs for Thursday's game against the 49ers. However, the odds aren't nearly as bad now as they were when the schedule was first released.
Seahawks-49ers Week 6 odds
According to the latest odds available at DraftKings Sportsbook, the Seahawks are three-point underdogs at home for this week's game against the Niners. That's a significant difference from the opening line when the schedule came out back in May, which had San Francisco favored by five points.
While Seattle might not look so hot right now, the Niners are also having some issues early in the season. On Sunday they were upset by the Arizona Cardinals, dropping their record on the season to 2-3. Injuries have played their role, especially the absence of superstar running back Christian McCaffrey, who will not be available on Thursday night.
However, it's not just injuries that are giving them trouble. San Francisco's diminutive quarterback has also dropped off compared to 2023. Aside from one strong game against the Los Angeles Rams, Brock Purdy has not played particularly well this season. Heading into this week he has managed six touchdown passes but also four interceptions. His passer rating is currently 95.3, almost 20 points lower than last year.
However, recent history is definitely on the 49ers' side. After getting dominated by the Seahawks for practically the entire Russell Wilson era, they have won the last five matchups between these teams by a total of 76 points.
