No Malik Nabers, no problem. That was the theme of the day in Sunday's win for the New York Giants, who were also missing starting running back Devin Singletary. In the end it didn't matter at all, as the Giants' backups at wide receiver and running back roasted the Seattle Seahawks defense during their upset 29-20 victory at Lumen Field.
It would be unfair to single out any one Seahawks player for the loss considering how poorly prepared they were (that's on the coaches), but one of the worst dynamics in the game was cornerback Tre Brown's coverage. With Devon Witherspoon and Riq Woolen representing far greater challenges, Daniel Jones and the Giants went after Brown like bullies, especially targeting Darius Slayton when Brown was on him.
In the end, Slayton went off for eight catches, 122 receiving yards (his most since 2020) and a touchdown. Apparently fans charged into Brown's mentions enough that he felt compelled to respond. Here's what number 22 shared on Twitter last night about the critics.
Seahawks CB Tre Brown responds to criticism
"Yall waited 4 years for me to have a bad game, life of a DB shit happens, I’m grateful for the highs and lows God put me through. Everything happen for a reason. Dogs have the day too, the bounce back will be even greater. Stay on that side."
Fans can be just a little bit over the top on social media following a bad game, but this wasn't Brown's first rough outing and you can bet other teams will look to take advantage of him after this performance.
By the fourth quarter the Seahawks had little choice but to take Brown off the field and put in rookie corner Nehemiah Pritchett out of Auburn. He played much better compared to Brown and may have earned himself some more snaps.
This is the final year of Brown's rookie contract, so he's under a lot of pressure to perform - especially when the Seahawks have to earmark a lot of money for big contract extensions for Woolen and Witherspoon in the next few years.
