The Seattle Seahawks have been enjoying a breakout year for left tackle Charles Cross, who has managed to earn the highest grade at his position so far this season according to Pro Football Focus. Unfortunately, the long-awaited explosive rise for their franchise left tackle is being ruined by the performance of the rest of the offensive line.

From left to right, Laken Tomlinson is at 45.2 in pass blocking and looks ready for retirement. Center Connor Williams is at 55.5 in that department and just 61.8 overall. Right guard Anthony Bradford is literally the worst, earning a 39.6 grade in pass protection and 46.1 overall. With both Abe Lucas and George Fant sidelined by injuries, Stone Forsythe is playing well for Stone Forsythe at right tackle, earning a decent-enough 64.7.

Seahawks host long-time vet Jason Peters

However, if the Seahawks were satsified with what Forsythe is doing at that spot they wouldn't have brougth in old man Jason Peters again for a free agent visit. According to Field Yates at ESPN, Peters met with the team on Tuesday.

After playing 240 regular season games split between the Philadelphia Eagles, Buffalo Bills and a couple of other teams, Peters signed with the Seahawks practice squad last September. He wound up starting eight games at tackle, mostly on the right side.

A nine-time Pro Bowler and Super Bowl champion, Peters is destined to have a bust in the Pro Football Hall of Fame some day. However, he's well past his prime now. Peters earned a poor 45.1 grade in pass blocking in 2023 and a career-worst 53.9 overall.

Our best idea for this conundrum was trying to pull off a trade for Trent Brown, who the team pursued hard in free agency a couple years ago. That option is now off the table as well, as Brown suffered a season-ending knee injury on Monday night.

No solution comes to mind at the moment, beyond offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb moving Geno Smith's pocket a bit more than they have so far this season. Fans have to hope Abe Lucas can return soon from the PUP list, but this is probably going to get worse before it gets better. If Peters signs he might end up starting at right tackle as soon as he's up to speed, the same as last year.
