Dallas Goedert injury update: The latest on Eagles' starting tight end image

The Philadelphia Eagles were on the field for practice Thursday at Lincoln Financial Field, and starting tight end Dallas Goedert remained out with what is becoming a nagging oblique injury.

Goedert has missed over a week of practice with the injury, leaving him eight days to get ready for the team’s regular-season opener against the Green Bay Packers in Sao Paulo, Brazil on Sept. 6.

UPDATE: Eagles injuries: Are starters Dallas Goedert, Isaiah Rodgers on track to play in Brazil?

The Eagles currently have only one other tight end on their roster, and that’s third-year backup Grant Calcaterra. The team initially waived rookie tight end E.J. Jenkins on NFL cut-down day before signing him to the practice squad a day later.

Injuries have been an issue for Goedert throughout his six-year tenure in Philadelphia. He was limited to 14 games in 2023 due to a fractured forearm that required surgery, finishing with 59 catches for 592 yards and three touchdowns. In 2022, he landed on Injured Reserve with a shoulder injury. Goedert has only played a full slate of regular season games once in his career, and that was his rookie season in 2018.

A better indicator for Goedert’s status for the opener will come next week, when the first official practice reports of the regular season are released. Since the injury was first reported on Aug. 21, there has been nothing to suggest that Goedert is in danger of missing the team’s trip to Brazil.
