5 days till Patriots season opener: Every player to wear No. 5 for New England image

The New England Patriots will open their 2024 campaign against the Cincinnati Bengals at Paycor Stadium on Sunday, September 8 at 1:00 p.m. ET, which is now five days away.

Until the opening kickoff of the season for the Patriots, we'll be counting down each day by looking back at those who have worn each specific jersey number.

Since 1960, seven players have worn No. 5 in New England, and with five days until their first game of the year, here's a look at everyone who's worn the number for the team:

DB Jabrill Peppers: 2023

  • Appeared in 32 games for New England over his first two seasons, recording 138 tackles (seven for a loss), eight passes defensed, two interceptions, two quarterback hits, two fumble recoveries and a forced fumble
  • Also played for the Cleveland Browns and New York Giants
  • Named a captain for the 2024 season 

QB Brian Hoyer: 2021-22

  • Appeared in 30 games for New England over eight seasons, completing 66.3% of his passes for 729 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions
  • Won a Super Bowl with the Patriots
  • Also played for the Cleveland Browns, Arizona Cardinals, Chicago Bears, Houston Texans, Indianapolis Colts, Las Vegas Raiders and San Francisco 49ers

K Shayne Graham: 2010

  • Appeared in eight games for New England in one season, making all 12 of his field goals and 94.6% of his extra points
  • Also played for the Cincinnati Bengals (made a Pro Bowl), New Orleans Saints, Atlanta Falcons, Baltimore Ravens, Buffalo Bills, Carolina Panthers, Houston Texans, Miami Dolphins and New York Giants

QB Kevin O'Connell: 2008

  • Appeared in two games for New England in one season, completing four of his six passes for 23 yards
  • Currently serving as the Minnesota Vikings head coach

P Pat O'Neill: 1994-95

  • Appeared in 24 games over two seasons, averaging 39.6 yards per punt
  • Also played for the Chicago Bears

K Greg Davis: 1989

  • Appeared in nine games for New England in one season, making 69.6% of his field goals and 81.3% of his extra points
  • Also played for the Arizona/Phoenix Cardinals, Atlanta Falcons, Minnesota Vikings, Oakland Raiders and San Diego Chargers

K Fred Steinfort: 1983

  • Appeared in nine games for New England in one season, making six of his 15 field goals and 16 of his 17 extra points
  • Also played for the Denver Broncos, Atlanta Falcons, Buffalo Bills and Oakland Raiders (won a Super Bowl)
