When the New England Patriots selected wide receiver Javon Baker in the fourth round of this year's draft, they knew they were grabbing a guy with a fiery personality.
Just after he was drafted, Baker went on Instagram Live and went off about teams that passed on him, and when he spoke to the media, he told them his plays would make people in wheelchairs stand up.
Now, however, Patriots head coach Jerod Mayo shared that the team had to punish the rookie wideout after another incident on social media.
Baker went live on Instagram again Sunday morning, complaining about getting a ticket and yelling about the officer who gave it to him while dropping someone off at the airport. Baker was also driving in the video.
“[This situation] in no way represents what the organization is about, in no way represents what we are about as a team or how Javon gets to go out there and represent himself,” Mayo said Monday. “We handled it internally. We had a great conversation. I think it’s a combination of his immaturity and just realizing the grand scheme. We’re on a big stage here.”
Mayo didn't clarify what the punishment for Baker was, but he did say he wouldn't miss a game for the incident.
The 22-year-old hasn't done much to earn grace with the team, so he'll need to clean up these issues, especially if he's not consistently impressing on the field.
