Albert Breer at Sports Illustrated has submitted his final round of NFL training camp takeaways ahead of the start of the 2024 season. More than once Breer has been glowingly effusive with his praise for what he's seen this offseason from the new regime in Seattle, including "more teaching" in practice from first-year Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald as opposed to what he witnessed during the Pete Carroll era.
Breer has also been particularly bullish about third-year running back Ken Walker, who he's predicting is going to have a big year. Apparently Breer felt strongly enough about it to repeat himself in his latest column:
"I said it when I was at Seahawks camp a month ago, and I’ll say it again: Kenneth Walker III is going to have a very, very big year for the Seattle Seahawks."
A lot of players look like they're going to have a big year in August and it doesn't work out for at least half of them. Then again, it is interesting that the Seahawks decided to sit Walker out for the entire preseason - not risking him getting hurt by playing a single snap - even as starting quarterback Geno Smith got to play a full drive against the Cleveland Browns on Saturday night.
Walker certainly has all the athletic ability and potential he needs to break out and become a superstar running back at this level. The question with Walker is one of discipline - ie, if Macdonald can get Walker to be patient and actually follow his blockers instead of trying to make everything happen on his own he might push his game to the next level.
Walker is already considered a top-10 running back by some analysts, including ESPN. So, if he does take that next step he'll be graduating into elite RB company with the likes of Christian McCaffrey, Derrick Henry, Nick Chubb and Josh Jacobs.
