Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Adonai Mitchell enters the NFL with a massive chip on his shoulder, and he'll be reminded of that every time he puts on his jersey.
As the initial jersey numbers were announced for the rookie class Friday, it was revealed that Mitchell will be wearing No. 10.
This isn't a random choice as ESPN's Stephen Holder pointed out. It represents the number of wide receivers selected before Mitchell in the 2024 NFL Draft.
Mitchell was the 11th wide receiver taken in the draft.
Wide receivers drafted before Adonai Mitchell in 2024
- Marvin Harrison Jr. (No. 4 overall)
- Malik Nabers (No. 6 overall)
- Rome Odunze (No. 9 overall)
- Brian Thomas Jr. (No. 23 overall)
- Xavier Worthy (No. 28 overall)
- Ricky Pearsall (No. 31 overall)
- Xavier Legette (No. 32 overall)
- Keon Coleman (No. 33 overall)
- Ladd McConkey (No. 34 overall)
- Ja'Lynn Polk (No. 37 overall)
This is far from a new development when it comes to wide receivers. The position always features players with "Me vs. the world" attitudes. For most, it pays off because it gives them extra motivation every time they step on the field.
Most notably in recent years, Detroit Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown memorized every wideout selected before him in the 2021 draft.
The Colts may have gotten a dawg in Mitchell, and he'll be reminded of how many teams passed on him every time he dons the uniform.
