The pressure has seemingly ticked up a notch on the New York Jets, but their head coach remains confident in his team's ability.
In his fourth season at the helm, Robert Saleh leads the 2-2 Jets up against the undefeated Minnesota Vikings for an October 6 edition of the NFL International Series.
"We got a fun group, a really fun group. We got a group that plays hard, they love one another, they appreciate one another, they play for one another," said Saleh while addressing reporters at the team's temporary London headquarters. "Jump on the wagon now because it is going to get full quick."
Saleh has taken external heat in the days following New York's disappointing Week 4 home loss to the Denver Broncos.
In a 10-9 loss, the favored Jets performed like an undisciplined bunch that was flagged for 13 accepted penalties, including five false starts on offense. The head coach suggested that some players are experiencing difficulty adjusting to the pre-snap hard-count cadence used by Aaron Rodgers, who subsequently called for accountability from his teammates.
Not only is Saleh's leadership being called into question, his relationship with Rodgers has been a hot topic for discussion. Amidst all the chatter, the Jets must find a way to win enough games to end the franchise's 13-year postseason drought. As if operating in the crucible that is the New York media market wasn't enough of a challenge.
"Pressure? In New York? You can be an expansion team and still have the same amount of pressure. It doesn't matter you got to win, it’s New York. The expectation is to win," said Saleh. "When you win, you are going to the Super Bowl. When you lose, fire everybody. That is the world we live in, that is the world we embrace."
Saleh, who owns a 20-35 record as Jets' head coach, has seen former Gang Green alumni Boomer Esiason and Damien Woody suggest the team should move on from him earlier this week.
