Over the weekend, the New England Patriots played without some of their key players for their Week 5 battle with the Miami Dolphins, including safety Jabrill Peppers, who wasn't just dealing with a shoulder injury.
The 29-year-old was arrested on Saturday in Braintree, Massachusetts after an altercation and will be charged with assault and battery, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, strangulation, and possession of a class “B” substance.
While the team already released a statement, Patriots head coach Jerod Mayo spoke about Peppers during his Monday morning radio interview and his media availability.
"He called me that morning, I knew what was going on," Mayo told WEEI. "We informed the NFL what was going on, and we're still gathering information."
When asked if Peppers is still on the team, Mayo explained that they're going through the process and letting the facts come out before decisions are made.
"He's not in the building today. He has his appearance and things like that," Mayo told reporters. "As we gather information, he can definitely be in the building. We don't know enough to say he shouldn't be in the building."
Mayo said he did address the team and this is a learning experience for the rest of the team.
