New England Patriots safety Jabrill Peppers wasn't on the field on Sunday, and while many believed it was because of the shoulder injury he was dealing with, the situation was much worse.
Peppers was arrested Saturday morning in Braintree, Massachusetts, and is expected to be charged with assault and battery, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, strangulation, and possession of a class “B” substance.
Braintree police say that arrived at the seen of an altercation between two people, and Peppers was arrested after an investigation. Authorities suspect the 29-year-old was in possession of cocaine.
On Monday morning, the Patriots, who signed Peppers to a three-year, $24 million extension this offseason, released the following statement:
"We are aware of an incident involving Jabrill Peppers over the weekend in which the police are currently investigating. We will have no further comment at this time."
