The Detroit Lions' front office, led by general manager Brad Holmes, is highly respected in league circles, something we saw in a poll of agents last month.

In that poll, which was compiled by The Athletic's Ben Standig, the Lions received one vote for the best-run franchise in the NFL, and Holmes was voted as the best talent evaluator by two different agents, and as the best general manager by five agents.

As if we needed more evidence of just how respected Holmes is, The Athletic did another poll ranking the top-10 front offices in the NFL based on votes by coaches and executives, and the Lions landed at No. 5 on the list.

Detroit didn't receive any first-place votes but had the fifth-most votes for second to fifth place in the polling. The four teams ranked ahead of Detroit from No. 1 to No. 4 are the Baltimore Ravens, Kansas City Chiefs, San Francisco 49ers and Philadelphia Eagles.

“If you asked: Who is the No. 1 GM in the league right now, this minute? It might be him," one unnamed general manager said. "I love the demeanor, love what he stands for.”

“Detroit has done a great job of figuring out their style and getting guys who fit that in the draft and free agency,” one NFC executive said.

“Detroit has done a nice job building it in their own image, which is unique to everybody else,” another executive said.

Holmes and head coach Dan Campbell have established a culture, and they have not strayed away from that for any player. The result is a team that has seen a steady rise since 2021 and is now in position to compete for a Super Bowl.

While they have rightly already garnered plenty of respect, Holmes and Campbell can catapult themselves to another level if the Lions can get over the hump and win a Super Bowl in 2024.
