The Denver Broncos had their three-game winning streak snapped on Sunday by the Los Angeles Chargers. After falling behind 23-0, the team just didn't have the firepower to get back into it.
Still, when looking at the weekly power rankings, fans will gladly take the Broncos' current position over where things were after Week 2. They will also gladly take a 3-3 record through six games.
Vinnie Iyer of The Sporting News put together a fresh power rankings list following the action in Week 6 (with the Monday night game still to be played) and he has the Broncos sitting at No. 18, just one spot lower than last week. That is a respectable spot and still indicative of a team that can easily make a postseason push in the weeks to come.
Here's what Iyer had to say about Denver:
"The Broncos are seeing good fight and playmaking from Bo Nix, as he tends to counterpunch well in every game. The offense now needs to start faster to keep the run defense from being exposed."
That is a great way to describe things as they currently stand. Those who want to blame Denver's lack of success on Bo Nix couldn't be more wrong as he has actually played quite well for a rookie. The Broncos need to make some changes to their running game and Sean Payton needs to consider a drastic change in playcalling.
The Broncos will travel to New Orleans to face a Saints team that has lost four games in a row after a thunderous 2-0 start to the season. Iyer has the Saints at No. 23 in his rankings.
That game will take place on Thursday night and the health of Pat Surtain II will be one of the top stories heading into that game. The Broncos' defense looked much different without Surtain on Sunday.
