Former Denver Broncos wide receiver Jerry Jeudy has a fresh start with the Cleveland Browns after an offseason trade but at least for Jeudy, that move was a long time coming.

Jeudy was recently interviewed by The Denver Gazette following a training camp practice and discussed his time in Denver. He wanted it to be over for a long while.

“It didn’t come out of the blue at all. I’m the one that decided that. I made the decision to come (to Cleveland) and I’m excited with my decision. … I actually came up to (the Broncos) and asked that I wanted a new atmosphere, a new change of scenery. I just wanted to go somewhere else and have a new feel and a new atmosphere.”

Jeudy also stated that he asked the Broncos to trade him last season. Could that explain some of his antics last year?

“At the beginning of the season, I asked Sean for it. I asked Sean for a trade and he said no. … Sean was like, ‘We love you and we want you here.’ He was not going to trade me, basically.”

Jeudy was able to get his wish this past March.

Jerry Jeudy became a distraction for Broncos in 2023

Jeudy got what he said he wanted and he says he wanted to go to Cleveland. But if the Broncos are honest, it was the best move for them too, even if all they got was a fifth-round pick and a sixth-round pick in return.

“They gave me a few teams. I had been hearing Cleveland had been trying to get me for a while and if a team had been trying to get me for a while, they really want me and are really going utilize me for my abilities. So I just came here.”

Jeudy never came close to living up to his potential as a first-round pick and that can be excused for several reasons, but none of them are acceptable excuses. What was worse was when Jeudy started calling out former Broncos on social media and drawing the ire of potential Hall-of-Fame wide receiver Steve Smith.

That led to things like this:

And this:

Those may be harsh words from Steve Smith and Mark Schlereth, but Jeudy's antics brought that on, and frankly, neither man is wrong.

Jeudy got the fresh start that he was hoping for... but so did the Broncos.
