The Denver Broncos will now be without both of the safeties that started the 2023 season for them.

Earlier this offseason, the team chose to part ways with Justin Simmons, still considered by many to be among the best safeties in the league, in a cost-cutting move. On Monday, it was announced that the team intends to move on from Caden Sterns as well.

The Broncos could still look for a trade partner before making the move official to at least get some kind of compensation in return.

Caden Sterns missed nearly all of 2023 season

This is a highly questionable decision and one that is sure to raise the eyebrows of many fans within Broncos Country. But it almost certainly comes down to availability.

The Broncos have seen a leap from JL Skinner in camp and they still have Delarrin Turner-Yell to support projected starters Brandon Jones and P.J. Locke. This also increases undrafted free agent Omar Brown's chances of making the squad.

Other safeties currently on the roster include Devon Key and Keidron Smith.

Sterns was selected in the fifth round out of Texas in 2021. He had 49 tackles, four interceptions, and two sacks in his time with the team. A torn patellar tendon in the season opener last year forced him to miss nearly the entire season.

He now will have to look for a new opportunity elsewhere.
