Denver Broncos first-round pick Bo Nix will not start the preseason opener for the team this Sunday, but his first start for the team has been made official. Nix will start in the second preseason game against the Green Bay Packers.

Jarrett Stidham will draw the start against the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday and Nix will come in second. Zach Wilson will follow both of them, working with guys on the back end of the roster.

Fans will want to see Nix in action against the Colts and though it remains to be seen how long he will play, he should see a significant amount of reps. The hope will be that he can build on that performance and take that into his start against Green Bay.

Bo Nix likely still in line to be Week 1 starter

Sean Payton is clearly sticking to a plan with these quarterbacks but it is almost certain that he is gradually working Nix into a role as the team's starter. Will he be ready to do that in Week 1? That is questionable, but Payton certainly feels comfortable with Stidham if he has to go that route.

Against the Packers, Nix will be on the field in live-game action with the rest of the team's starters, at least for a series or two. How he performs in that spot by handling any pressure he may face and running Payton's offense is going to be key in whether or not he starts the season.

Nix would be the Broncos' first rookie Week 1 starter since John Elway in 1983.
