Denver Broncos must find a way to get a playmaker for Bo Nix before trade deadline image

The Denver Broncos sorely need another playmaker on offense, that much is abundantly clear.

Rookie quarterback Bo Nix is going through the kind of growing pains you would expect for a player transitioning from college to the pros. But it is not going to help his development if the team has no running game and no offensive threat outside of Courtland Sutton.

The Broncos have some potential for the future with Troy Franklin and Devaughn Vele, but the team needs some more firepower right now as it is very much in the race this season. However, there are glaring holes.

Denver Broncos offense lacks a serious threat

The running game is a mess

This was discussed at length here, but the Broncos need to figure out a new approach when it comes to rushing the ball. This can take place mostly with the players the team already has, Sean Payton just needs to be more committed to running the ball and less reliant on Javonte Williams, who is just not getting the job done.

There is no output from the tight end position

Greg Dulcich has been a healthy scratch in each of the last two weeks, signaling that the team could be done with that experiment. The other tight ends on the roster are not likely to add much in the way of stretching the field and actually threatening defenses, so this is something that should be looked at before the trade deadline. If not, the Broncos must find another option in next year's draft or through free agency.

Courtland Sutton is not a No. 1 WR

But for now, he's going to have to be. The Broncos need a guy who can take the top off the defense and catch everything thrown his way, a player who is a matchup nightmare no matter who the opponent is. The Broncos haven't had a player like this since Demaryius Thomas, but they need to find one.

This would require a bold move before the November 5th trade deadline, maybe too bold. But the Broncos are never going to have one of the league's top passing attacks with their current wide receiver corps.

Soon, I will provide specific players for the Broncos to consider acquiring before the trade deadline, which is about three weeks away. But the team does need to consider being aggressive and making a move to add to its offensive attack in order to help end their long-standing playoff drought.
