Despite losing their last two games, the Boston Red Sox have been one of the best teams in baseball over the last month or so and have put themselves in a position to compete for a spot in the postseason with less than 50 games remaining in the 2024 regular season.

Boston has been playing with a rather inexperienced roster, with multiple rookies starting every game, but their ability has impressed some of the team's veterans in the locker room.

"They're excited. They're hungry," reliever Chris Martin said earlier in the week. "They're just going out there and competing every single day and playing hard. The results are the results. We win or lose, you go out there and play as hard as you can, and most of the time, you come out of it on the other side... I've been really impressed with these guys. Nothing really fazes them... We didn't start off great, but we felt like it was coming. We have a lot of talent on this team. Obviously, we have a lot of speed. We have power. We have pitching. We're playing good defense. Those things usually turn out in the good games. Hopefully, they keep that same mindset and keep playing hard every day.

Martin has been in and out of the bullpen throughout the year due to injuries and battles with anxiety. Even a guy like shortstop Trevor Story, who has been out since April, is enjoying what his guys have done in his absence.

"Just watching this team, man, I think there's so many ways I feel like we can win a game," Story said. "We can bang with the best of them. We can play small ball, speed, defense. There's just so a lot of ways to win, and it's fun when it's that way. It doesn't have to be one way every night.

"You grind it out all year, and this is when it gets really fun. Your team decides who they are, and I think you're seeing that from us lately. We've had some tough breaks, and we feel like we've gotten ahead and then fallen behind. But, I feel like we've done some good work to get back to where we're at now. It just makes us tougher for the playoffs, and that's something that's gonna serve us well in October."
