The future of Gleyber Torres with the New York Yankees is quite the mystery as the playoffs continue.
Enduring a tale of two seasons, Torres showed both sides of his polarizing play throughout the 2024 campaign.
Whether Torres will return to the Yankees in free agency this offseason is up for debate. They may not have enough money to re-sign him if they are able to bring back Juan Soto.
In predicting where Torres will land on the open market during the winter, Erik Beaston of Bleacher Report believes there's a strong fit on the West Coast.
"The San Francisco Giants need a second baseman and could always use the spark of offense that Torres provides when he is "on." Conversely, the seven-year man could use a change of scenery," Beaston wrote. "It is a mutually beneficial pairing, at least on paper, and one the Giants can likely make happen at a lower price than they would have had Torres hit the market a season or two ago."
The first half of his season was littered with inconsistent at-bats, poor fielding and a lack of hustle that got him benched. He hit .231 with eight home runs, 35 RBI and an 88 wRC+ during the first half of the season.
However, Torres found his groove after the All-Star break. In those 61 games during the second half, Torres hit .292 with seven home runs, 28 RBI and a 124 wRC+.
He thrived from the leadoff spot when he was given a second chance to lead the order on Aug. 16. Since then, Torres hit .313 with five home runs and 31 runs scored to go along with an .840 OPS and 142 wRC+ over those final 39 games.
He also led all MLB second basemen with 18 errors.
The second-half surge might help Torres earn some extra cash during free agency, and the Giants seem like a likely landing spot for the polarizing slugger.
