The Boston Red Sox need a right-handed power bat for this upcoming season, and Chief of Baseball Operations Craig Breslow is on it. He went on the WEEI Radio Show and talked through his thoughts

“We obviously have Tyler (O’Neill) right now, but he’s earned the right to explore free agency, and the right handed power that plays so well at Fenway is going to be a massive hole that we’re going to need to figure out how to fix.”

The Sox lineup is a bunch of lefties with only a few righties, and the best among them is O’Neill, who may leave for free agency. Here are a few righties the Sox may target for power bombs over the Monster.

  1. Alex Bregman, Houston Astros third baseman

Bregman has been rumored to be a potential target for the Sox for a power righty. He is a career .272 hitter, with 188 homers and 263 doubles. His power would lead to a lot of homers and doubles off the Monster. The only problem with this acquisition is he is a third baseman, meaning Rafael Devers or him would have to move to first or DH, meaning Triston Casas and Masataka Yoshida would need to be moved.

  1. Gleyber Torres, New York Yankees middle infielder

Torres would be a nice pickup, as he has been a decent leadoff hitter for the Yankees this year. He would also fill that second baseman hole left by Dustin Pedroia all those years ago. He has hit 23 doubles and 14 homers this year, so he could also take advantage of the Monster.

  1. Tyler O’Neill, Boston Red Sox outfielder

Boston will definitely try to bring back O’Neill, as he had been a stud for him this year. He is hitting .250, with 31 homers and 18 doubles, so he is a perfect righty bat for the lineup. The only problems with him is the abundance of outfielders the Sox have, and that when he goes on a cold streak, he is freezing cold.

With these players considered, the Sox won’t have a tough time getting a good righty bat or two. The tough thing will be figuring out what they need to give up to make room.
