Boston Red Sox Chief of Baseball Operations Craig Breslow is telling fans to be excited about the future of the team, per Alex Speier. Now that the homegrown talent has proved themselves, they can be aggressive pursuing elite talent.
“The state of the build is strong… The position players that we thought had the potential to impact our major league team this year and in the near future are doing that, or have increased or confirmed our confidence in their ability to do that… When you have homegrown, cost-controlled talent, it enables you to be a little bit more aggressive in looking for elite major league talent.”
The Sox need pitching, especially in the bullpen and some of the starters. Brayan Bello, Tanner Houck, Liam Hendriks, Justin Slaten, Luis Guerrero and Zach Penrod are all safe. All the others are up on the chopping block so the Sox can search and acquire some elite talent.
The Sox need one more elite bat as well, but that’s not an offseason problem, more of a trade deadline one.
Whether or not the Sox somehow make the playoffs this year, the future looks really bright.
