The Boston Red Sox lose the first game of the series against the New York Yankees 2-1 in extra innings. Cooper Criswell pitched as the starter, and had a rare gem.
Criswell went five and a third innings, got four strikeouts, and only gave up one run. The offense, however, did not really capitalize on this.
Their only offense in the regular game was a solo homer by Danny Jansen in the fifth. He tied the game with this, after the Yankees hit their own solo homer in the first.
In extras, the Sox failed to capitalize with runners on, and then gave up a walkoff single to Juan Soto, the second of his career.
The Sox will play New York again tomorrow at 7:10pm EST.
