After Friday night's loss to the Minnesota Twins, the Boston Red Sox' 2024 season is all but over, and now they'll likely be without third baseman Rafael Devers for their final few games.

Manager Alex Cora told reporters on Friday that Devers will be having an MRI on Saturday which will probably end his season.

Devers has played through a nagging shoulder injury throughout the season which has seen him hit just .187 with a .587 OPS, six doubles and three home runs over his last 37 games.

The 27-year-old's determination and perseverance have caught the attention of shortstop Trevor Story, who commended the third baseman on Friday night.

"It's tough, man," Story said (via. Red Sox Stats). "I'm super proud of him. I'm proud to call him my teammate, and he's the face of the franchise and he comes out here and posts. He's been banged up for a long time, I think everyone knows that, but he's out here playing. He wants to win, he's setting the tone for everyone to follow. Even if you're banged up you still play and set the tone that way."

Devers knew that the team needed him to try and carry them to the postseason, but he's really struggled. Still, he's been on the field nearly every day, fighting for a chance to play in the playoffs.

Now, that they're basically eliminated, he can get a head start on the offseason process, which could just include rest and rehab but could also include surgery depending on the MRI results.
