The Boston Red Sox are running out of time to make a push for the postseason with just 10 games left and a lot of ground to make up.

It's natural that teams and players start focusing on the future with the offseason right on the horizon, and the Red Sox should have one clear focus—finding starting pitching.

Boston should have money to spend in free agency and plenty of talented players they could part with in a trade, so they really have no excuse for not improving their rotation.

The top domino this offseason will be Baltimore Orioles starter Corbin Burnes, who's been great this year, posting a 3.06 ERA and a 1.119 WHIP while striking out 164 batters in 182 1/3 innings over 30 starts. And, playing for the top Wild Card team in the American League, Burnes will have a chance to show off for all the teams looking to throw money at him in just a few months.

In a recent post for MLB.com, baseball insider Mark Feinsand listed the Red Sox as a team that could be involved in the bidding for Burnes' services.

"I think the Red Sox could be a team to watch," Feinsand wrote. "The Boston fan base is getting a bit restless."

He's not wrong. Boston last made the postseason in 2021 and the last three seasons have been alarmingly similar, and this year, they're .500 through 152 games and have a zero run differential.

Interestingly, Feinsand isn't the only reporter in this post who names the Red Sox as a candidate to land the four-time All-Star and Cy Young winner.

"I also believe that Burnes going to Boston could make a lot of sense," Orioles beat reporter Jake Rill said. "The Sox already have a solid rotation, and adding Burnes to the top of that staff would create quite a formidable group."

However, Mets beat reporter Anthony DiComo shut down the idea.

"My stock answer on the Red Sox is, 'I'll believe it when I see it,'" DiComo wrote. "They just haven't landed a true top-tier free agent in so long.

Adding Burnes, or a top pitcher of his ilk is a must for the Red Sox if they want to keep their fans engaged and have a better chance of being legitimate contenders in 2025 and beyond.
