The Boston Red Sox have been eliminated from postseason contention after losing Wednesday night's battle to the Toronto Blue Jays 6-1.
While Boston still has one series left in the regular season, they should be preparing for the offseason and thinking about who they'll target either in free agency or through trade.
One of the Red Sox' biggest needs heading into 2025 is bullpen help after the group had the sixth-worst ERA in baseball (4.46) and blew the second-most saves (31).
Looking around the league, there are quite a few options for Boston to pursue, but FanSided's Miles Houston listed Philadelphia Phillies reliever Carlos Estevez as an "ideal" fit.
Estevez, 31, has been really solid over the last three seasons, but 2024 may be his best year yet. Splitting time between the Los Angeles Angels and Philadelphia Phillies, he's posted a 2.45 ERA and a 0.909 WHIP while striking out 50 batters in 55 innings (47 games). He was also an All-Star in 2023 for the Angels, recording a 3.90 ERA and a 1.492 WHIP while striking out 78 batters in 62 1/3 innings.
If Boston were to add Estevez this offseason, he could compete for the closer job with Liam Hendriks, Justin Slaten, Garrett Whitlock and any other relievers they decide to add.
He'd be a great late-inning addition no matter when he actually gets the call from the bullpen.
