The Boston Red Sox were down 3-0 through the first six innings of Tuesday night's battle with the Toronto Blue Jays, and it looked like their winning streak was ending at three games.
However, Boston's offense showed up late, as they tied the game by scoring two runs in the seventh and one in the eighth. And, in extra innings, they scored three more in the top of the 10th and gave up just two in the bottom half, securing a fourth victory in as many games.
After the game, Red Sox manager Alex Cora was elated, calling the victory “one of the most gratifying wins I’ve been here.”
“It was fun,” Cora said (via. MassLive). “We put ourselves in this position and obviously, it’s not a perfect one. But for us, it’s just go out there and try to make it count. The boys, they did an amazing job fighting all the way to the end. We used everybody.”
Despite being on the verge of elimination from the playoffs, the team has fought hard over the last week, winning five of their last seven games. And, the fact that they're doing this without Rafael Devers, who was placed on the injured list due to a shoulder issue, makes it that much more impressive.
However, they still sit 3.5 games back of the final American League Wild Card spot with four games to go in their season and five to go for the Kansas City Royals, who currently hold that spot.
