Red Sox bullpen blows 4-0 lead; lose to Yankees 5-4 image

The Boston Red Sox lost to the New York Yankees for the second night in a row, 5-4. They had a 4-0 lead until late in the game, where the Sox bullpen blew it, as per usual.

Richard Fitts was the starter tonight after Tanner Houck was scratched, and pitched a great game against one of the best offenses in the league. He went five innings, gave up no runs, and struck out two hitters.

The offense was adequate today as well, as both Masataka Yoshida and Trevor Story hit two-run homers, giving the Sox four runs. Story’s homer was his first this season.

The game seemed like it was in the bag, but the bullpen didn’t believe so. Only two relievers did well, Justin Slaten, the first to come in, and Luis Guerrero, the last to come in.

The middle two, Zack Kelly and Cam Booser, lost the Sox the game. Kelly walked the last two in the Yankees’ order, and Booser gave up a hit and walked the next, bringing up Aaron Judge, who broke his 16-game no homer streak with a grand slam to left, making it 5-4, and winning the game in the seventh.

The Sox play New York tomorrow to try and get the ability to tie the series at 1:05pm EST.
