Ahead of the Boston Red Sox' Saturday matchup with the Minnesota Twins at Fenway Park, Boston made a pair of roster moves.
The Red Sox announced that right-handed reliever Luis Garcia was reinstated from the 15-day injured list and to make space for him, they've optioned Cooper Criswell to Triple-A Worcester.
Boston acquired Garcia at the trade deadline from the Los Angeles Angels for a package that included Matthew Lugo, Niko Kavadas, Ryan Zeferjahn and Yeferson Vargas. He was horrendous in his 11 games before dealing with elbow inflammation, posting a 10.32 ERA and a 1.941 WHIP.
Criswell has been back and forth between Boston and Worcester this season. In his 26 appearances (18 starts), he's posted a 4.08 ERA and a 1.349 WHIP while striking out 6.6 batters per nine innings. He was charged with a loss on Friday night after he allowed three runs (two earned) in his lone inning of work.
Boston's bullpen has been up and down this year, and this will give Garcia a chance to prove himself before he hits free agency.
