WWE diva Trish Stratus explains struggling with sex appeal status, turning down Playboy image

The WWE world is about to enjoy a bit of a renaissance with seven-time champion Trish Stratus. Teased at Money in the Bank, fans are awaiting her and briefcase winner Tiffany Stratton to tangle in the ring. Playing the host role and famously introducing John Cena's retirement tour announcement, Stratus eventually ran into Stratton backstage where the latter informed the 2013 Hall of Fame inductee that her time was over and it was officially Tiffy Time. Sooner or later, perhaps even as early as early August's SummerSlam, the two will square off.

For fans who enjoy the aesthetics of women's wrestling as much as the physical action and storylines, it's a match made in heaven. Both are considered blond bombshells in their own rights, but for Stratus it wasn't always natural to play up her sex appeal. She recently revealed what her true nature is and why that led to her turning down several offers to pose for Playboy, despite her past feud with Christy Hemme, a wrestler who did choose to pose nude for the men's magazine. Speaking to the Inside The Ropes podcast, Stratus revealed the following.

“This whole sexy thing is not really my thing, believe it or not. Yeah, they asked me a number of times and I declined a number of times. This whole sexy thing is not necessarily a natural thing to me, I’m very tomboy, it's kund of like, I like I look back at some of my interviews and they were like, ‘What’s your favorite? List your lingerie,’ and I’d be like, ‘I wear boxer shorts, bitches! And I wear tank tops, how about that? Sexy? You think that's sexy? But some people did.’ (she laughs)

I just didn't subscribe to that, it just wasn't a natural thing. To be honest, the sexy thing was hard enough for me to pull off, I did that. But to be naked, is just like, ‘Oh no, I’m good, thank you,’ At the end of the day, I am here to be a wrestler. I wanted to  at that point, I remember saying I wanted to be the best female wrestler that ever existed. And that certainly had nothing to do with being a wrestler. It just didn't make sense at all in my career path to do it.”
