One of the biggest free agent acquisitions by the WWE didn’t occur in the ring this year, but rather at the announcer’s table. Pat McAfee, former NFL punter and current globally-known analyst of all things professional football, joined WWE RAW in 2024 to add color commentary alongside Michael Cole.

McAfee won’t be present and accounted for after this week’s episode, however, the Aug. 19 airing of RAW being his final for quite some time; and he explained the reasoning as a very predictable one.

No worries, the Wyatt Sicks 6 hasn't abducted him ... yet.

“Alright, last Monday Night RAW for a bit. I’m very bummed out that tonight will be my last trip to that wonderful WWE family for a while. Let’s have a day. I’m bummed out. Football season is starting, which is awesome, but the WWE family is where I’m supposed to be, and I know that. And I hope they do, too. Cheers.”

This clears up any questions of how the WWE would work a rotation that now includes another big get at the announcer’s table, former ESPN broadcaster Joe Tessitore, who is expected to join the Red Brand on Monday, Sept. 2.

If you’re looking for McAfee, following the crumbs to the NFL.
