Cameron Brink injury update: Sparks rookie suffers torn ACL in loss vs. Sun image

Sparks rookie Cameron Brink was carried to the locker room after a scary moment in Connecticut on Tuesday.

Early in the first quarter against the Sun, Brink lost her footing on a drive and fell in apparent pain. After she was helped to her feet, Brink hobbled and did not put any weight on her leg before she was carried to the locker room by members of the Sparks training staff.

What is Brink's injury, and how serious is it? Here are the latest updates below.

What is Cameron Brink's injury?

Brink suffered a torn ACL in the Sparks' 79-70 loss to the Connecticut Sun, the team announced Wednesday. The organization said it would provide updates about her status "at a later date."

Brink suffered the injury after attempting a left-hand drive down the lane before losing her footing and falling awkwardly. She was in obvious pain and did not put weight on her left leg as she was carried to the locker room.

The Sparks announced Brink had suffered a knee injury and would not return to the game vs. Connecticut.

The Sparks' star rookie reportedly walked out of Mohegan Sun Arena on Tuesday night with no assistance, no ice and no visible brace, per SheKnowsSports' Terrika Foster-Brasby.

Alas, it appears her rookie season will come to an end as well; so too will her hopes of representing Team USA in 3-on-3 basketball at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

How long will Cameron Brink be out?

Brink will miss the rest of her rookie season after suffering a torn ACL. It isn't clear if the malady will impact her preparations for the 2025 WNBA season, but the rookie big will also miss the 2024 Olympics because of her injury.

Brink expressed that she was upset by her injury in a social media post but also tried to stay positive ahead of her lengthy recovery.

You never think it will happen to you. And despite all the hard work sometimes it does. This is hard to fathom but I know it will only make me stronger. I will not be derailed and I will continue to love this life — I'm not defined by basketball, but it is something that I love deeply and I will work every day to get back to it. It's not goodbye basketball, it's just a see you later. I'm always so thankful for your thoughts and prayers.

Through her first 14 WNBA games, Brink averaged more than 23 minutes per game in a starting role for Los Angeles. She finishes her rookie campaign having averaged 7.5 points, 5.3 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 2.3 blocks per game.
