Arsenal have rejected a second bid from Marseille for the signing of Eddie Nketiah.

Roberto De Zerbi is looking for reinforcements in attack to help build a successful squad as he prepares to take charge of his first competitive game as Marseille boss this month.

The former Brighton head coach has already brought in Premier League talents such as Mason Greenwood from Manchester United and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg from Tottenham Hotspur and is now chasing the Gunner.

Reports have long stated that the French side's focus is now on signing Nketiah from Arsenal, but they still have work to do to finalize the transfer as the clubs are not yet in agreement on a fee.

Arsenal reject Nketiah bid despite looking to raise funds

It was reported earlier in the week that Arsenal were likely to reject a second offer from De Zerbi's side despite news from France indicating that Nketiah has agreed to personal terms with Marseille.

The 25-year-old forward is said to be keen on joining De Zerbi’s team and has already committed to a five-year contract with Marseille, contingent upon finalizing the deal.

That news has now been confirmed by transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano, who says the improved €27 million ($29.4m) bid has been rejected by the Gunners.

While Arsenal are hoping to raise funds in order to help with other signings, they are not prepared to sell Nketiah on the cheap.

Mikel Arteta and Arsenal's hierarchy managed to squeeze £34 million ($43.4m) out of Fulham for Emile Smith Rowe and could be after a similar figure for the frontman.

In terms of signings, it's gone slightly quiet after the club made it official that they had acquired Riccardo Calafiori for €45 million ($49m).
